Enhancing child protection capacity, prioritizing family-based alternative care

HNN.VN - On June 2nd, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Care for Children organization, held a working session on the implementation of a project to strengthen family-based alternative care for children in special circumstances during the 2026 - 2028 period in Hue. The program is expected to help improve the effectiveness of child protection and care efforts, enabling children to live in safe, stable, and loving family environments.

Attending the event were Associate Professor, Doctor, Specialist Level II Nguyen Tri Thuc, Deputy Minister of Health; Mr. Ha Van Tuan, Member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee; representatives of relevant departments, agencies, and sectors; and representatives of Care for Children.

According to information from Hue City Department of Health, Care for Children is a charitable organization operating with the vision of “A world where every child can live in a family”. For many years, the organization has partnered with governments around the world to implement family-based alternative care models, creating opportunities for children in special circumstances to grow up in safe and stable environments while receiving love and support from the community.

In Vietnam, the project aims to strengthen family-based alternative care options for children in special circumstances during the 2026 - 2028 period. In Hue, the program specifically aims to strengthen and enhance the capacity of the child protection system by 2028, with priority given to developing family-based alternative care models. Through these efforts, every child will have the opportunity to live, study, and develop in a safe, stable, and loving family environment.

Speaking at the session, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tri Thuc highly appreciated the city leadership’s attention to social welfare and child protection efforts. He noted that Hue is a locality with many positive traditions and has achieved significant results in caring for children in recent years. With the support of all levels of government and the assistance of Care for Children, the project is expected to deliver practical outcomes and contribute to improving the quality of child care services in the locality. He also affirmed that the Ministry of Health would continue to provide full support and favorable conditions for the effective implementation of the project.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee Ha Van Tuan expressed his hope that the project would create additional opportunities for children facing particularly difficult circumstances, especially orphans and children without caregivers, to live in stable family environments and receive comprehensive care. The city leader emphasized that children are always regarded as the future of the nation; therefore, protecting, caring for, and creating favorable conditions for their holistic development remains one of the locality’s top priorities.

Hue City People's Committee pledged to provide all favorable conditions for Care for Children to implement the project while directing departments and agencies to work closely with the Ministry of Health and relevant organizations to effectively carry out the proposed activities. The implementation of the project will not only help strengthen the child protection system but also demonstrate the commitment of authorities at all levels to ensuring that every child grows up within a family environment, thereby laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive development of future generations.

On September 30th, the Ministry of Education and Training organized an online training workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of staff and teachers responsible for child protection in the online environment. In Hue, the workshop took place at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School.
