Providing livelihoods for single mothers and supporting children in difficult circumstances to school

Presenting gifts to students in difficult circumstances in Hoa Chau Ward

The activity was part of the project ‘Empowering single mothers in peri-urban areas of Hue City: A multisectoral approach to improving livelihoods and well-being for vulnerable families in Huong An and Hoa Chau wards’, funded by the COV.

Speaking at the program, Chairwoman of Hue City Women’s Union Duong Thi Thu Thuy said that supporting single mothers in developing their livelihoods, gradually becoming economically self-reliant and stabilizing their lives is one of the key areas of focus for the Union.

Presenting gifts and livelihood support to women facing hardship

At the program, 7 livelihood support models in Huong An and Hoa Chau, worth a total of approximately VND 260 million, were presented to single mothers following a process of surveying, selecting, and assessing their needs.

In addition, the project helped 21 women access microloans, including 7 cases in Huong An Ward and 14 cases in Hoa Chau Ward, with a total disbursed amount of VND 270 million.

Children were delighted to receive new bicycles

For children, the program provided scholarships worth VND 1 million per child and learning support packages worth VND 2 million per child. Presented ahead of the new academic year, the gifts helped ease hardship for families while providing the children with greater motivation and peace of mind to pursue their studies.

Ms. Duong Thi Thu Thuy expressed hope that the women receiving livelihood models would make effective use of the support provided and take the initiative to build stable lives; and that the students would continue to study hard, nurture their dreams, and become pillars of support for their families in the future.
