Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital |
Selected by the Government and the Ministry of Health as one of six hospitals prioritized for focused investment to achieve regional and international standards, Hue Central Hospital (HCH) has made significant efforts to improve medical examination, treatment quality, and patient care. The hospital currently has a capacity of over 5,000 beds, a professional healthcare team, and performs nearly 50,000 surgeries annually, ranking among the top three nationwide. In 2024, Hue Central Hospital was recognized as an outstanding unit by the Ministry of Health for its development of advanced and specialized techniques, including organ transplantation, stem cell transplantation, stroke treatment, oncology, and cardiology. These specialties have been systematically and comprehensively developed, with close coordination among departments. Notably, HCH was the only healthcare institution honored in the 2024 "Glory Vietnam" program.
Professor, what is the hospital's vision and strategy for training high-quality human resources in advanced and specialized techniques?
In development investment to become a treatment center of regional and global standards, training is very important, as human resources ensure the quality of both technical skills and patient care services. The hospital maintains training in various forms, such as on-site training, advanced training in domestic or foreign countries with advanced medical systems like the United States, France, Canada, Japan, etc. Training is implemented systematically and thoroughly, spanning multiple generations. This allows the next generation to continue the work of the previous ones and ensures a team of young, highly skilled professionals who can perform specialized techniques, contributing to the hospital’s synchronized and stable development.

What opportunities will Hue Central Hospital have, and how can it seize these opportunities when Hue becomes a centrally-governed municipality?
Hue Central Hospital (HCH), a special-grade hospital under the Ministry of Health located in a centrally governed city, will clearly enjoy numerous benefits, particularly with the government's plans to invest in specialized healthcare centers nationwide. When Hue becomes a centrally-governed municipality, resources, investments, and human resources will be focused on Hue, and the hospital will directly benefit from this by being a high-quality medical center with concentrated human resources, contributing to the development of the city. At the same time, the hospital will also help turn Hue into a medical tourism hub, offering health care, cosmetic treatments, and other high-end medical tourism services.
Hue Central Hospital (HCH) is aiming to meet regional and international standards. So, what requirements has the board of directors set up regarding human resources, infrastructure, service attitudes and professionalism, Professor?
We recognize that once the hospital is elevated, it must establish many standards that align with regional and international benchmarks. The human resources should meet the requirements in terms of expertise, language proficiency, and service attitude. The quality of service must always be at the highest level to ensure patient satisfaction.
Medical equipment also needs to be invested in systematically and modernized to incorporate the latest advancements in global medicine, ensuring timeliness and relevance. This will enhance the quality of diagnosis and treatment, attract both domestic and international patients, particularly overseas Vietnamese returning to the country for medical care.
What benefits will patients receive when the hospital reaches regional and international standards?
Currently, many Vietnamese people traveling abroad for medical examinations and treatments is a pressing issue. Treatment costs abroad are quite expensive, 4 to 10 times higher than in Vietnam. The development of Hue Central Hospital to international standards brings numerous benefits to the healthcare sector and society, including the people.
The most noticeable benefit when the hospital achieves international standards is that patients will access high-quality medical services and the most advanced treatment methods in the world. They will be diagnosed and treated by highly skilled doctors and enjoy the best medical services.
The hospital is implementing a modern information system, building a smart hospital model, and promoting the application of information technology. It continues to upgrade electronic medical record software, standardize and format output data for templates, especially monitoring index templates for paraclinical results. With the intelligent management system, patients will experience shorter waiting times and be provided with comprehensive information about their condition, treatment methods, and treatment costs.
Thank you, Professor!
