Free Surgery for Children with Congenital Facial Abnormalities in Operation Smile Program

HNN.VN - On August 17th, the Provincial Dental Hospital, in coordination with Operation Smile Vietnam, conducted screening exams for children with abnormalities. This activity is part of the annual Operation Smile surgery program held in Thua Thien Hue.

Since the announcement, the organizers have received around 200 applications for free surgeries from many patients coming from Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and other regions.

The mentioned patients suffer from congenital cleft lip (from 6 months, weighing at least 8kg) - cleft palate (from 18 months old, weighing at least 10kg) who have not undergone surgery; complications of congenital cleft lip – palate; lip scars, palate fistulas, nasal deformities; congenital syndactyly, polydactyly (hands, feet); congenital ptosis (not related to ophthalmic diseases)...

Selected cases will undergo surgery from August 18th to 21st. It is expected that the program will operate on 70-100 cases.

There are 40 experts, doctors, technicians, and volunteers from all over the country participating in this mission. Operation Smile Vietnam supports the children who come for screening with partial travel and meal expenses. Each patient undergoing surgery also receives support of 350,000 VND per case.
