A solid foundation
According to a survey and evaluation by the University of Law, Hue University, graduates from the university consistently achieve a high employment rate of 85 - 90%. This is a clear demonstration to the quality of training, and the strong connection between the curriculum and the practical requirements of the labor market. It also demonstrates the university's commitment to creating a quality educational environment that supports students in their comprehensive development of knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes.
The University of Law, Hue University applies the Clinical Legal Education (CLE) model, which allows students to access professional practice from their first year, enhancing their professional skills and legal practice capacity. This is combined with comprehensive quality assessment. The university has completed the second cycle of educational institution assessment, with 100% of undergraduate training programs being assessed. By June 2025, two postgraduate training programs also completed their quality assessment process.
Hue University's predecessor was the University of Hue, established in March 1957 and reorganized in 1994 according to the Decree No. 30/CP, dated April 4, 1994 of the Government. It is one of the three regional universities in the country, a public higher education institution that includes university institutions members, institutes member, and affiliated units. It is organized on two levels, offering multi-disciplinary and multi-field education at all levels of higher education, as well as scientific research and technology transfer, meeting the socio-economic development needs of the region and the nation.
Upon its re-establishment, Hue University had the following universities: General, Sciences, Pedagogy, Agriculture and Forestry, Medicine, and Arts. Up to now, Hue University has expanded to include the university of Economics, the university of Foreign Languages, the university of Law, the Institute of Biotechnology, Hue University Branch in Quang Tri, School of Hospitality and Tourism, School of Engineering and Technology, School of International Studies, School of Physical Education, Institute of Open Training and Information Technology, Institute for Educational Testing and Quality Assurance, Institute for Digital Transformation and Educational Resources, Institute for Socio-Economic Development, Center for National Defense and Security Education, Student Service Center, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Publishing House, and Journal of Science Publisher.
Hue University pays attention to and facilitates the promotion, implementation, and support of innovation, and entrepreneurship activities; training professional skills for staff, lecturers and students; and, additionally, recommend employment for students. Accordingly, it established the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, invested in forming a co-working space, and organized training courses on innovation and entrepreneurship for staff, lecturers, and students in the provinces of the Central - Central Highlands region, as well as the entire country.
A high position on the international stage
Dr. Bui Van Loi, Deputy Director in charge of Hue University, stated that as a regional university striving to become a national university, Hue University has a great mission not only to train a large number of high-quality human resources, but also to provide multi-disciplinary, multi-field education that meets the requirements and needs of both domestic and international labor markets.
30 years ago, Hue University only had 60 undergraduate training majors, 30 post-graduate training specializations, and a scale of less than 20,000 students and postgraduates. Today, Hue University has 150 undergraduate majors, about 110 post-graduate majors, and 55 doctoral majors. The medical field alone has up to 63 specialized majors for Specialist Doctors level I and level II, and 12 majors for resident doctors. By 2025, the training scale of Hue University is expected to reach approximately 55,000 undergraduate students, 4,200 postgraduate students, and over 610 doctoral candidates.
Its position and prestige are affirmed as Hue University attracts a large number of international students to study at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. These include international students from countries with developed education systems, such as Thailand, China, Japan, and South Korea, etc. To meet the requirements of improving the quality of human resource training, Hue University has organized nearly 20 joint training programs at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels with partners from advanced countries such as the USA, France, Austria, Australia, Japan, China, Sweden, Belarus, New Zealand, Finland, and Thailand, etc.
Hue University has achieved many successes in the field of research and the implementation of scientific and technological projects. To date, Hue University has implemented more than 310 State-level scientific and technological topics and tasks, and nearly 1,100 Ministry-level and provincial-level (now Hue City) scientific and technological topics and tasks. The number of scientific publications by Hue University’s staff and lecturers in prestigious international scientific journals listed in the ISI (or WoS) and Scopus databases has increased rapidly and consistently over the past 10 years, estimated at around 30% per year.
Since 2023, Hue University has been 1 of 6 Vietnamese higher education institutions ranked in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, at 1501+. The THE also released its rankings by subjects in 2024, in which Hue University was ranked in 4 of 11 subjects, including: Clinical and Health (801-1000), Engineering (1001+), Life Sciences (1001+), and Physical Sciences (1001+), an increase of 3 subjects compared to the 2023 THE rankings. Notably, this was the first time Hue University was ranked in Clinical and Health, securing an official ranking of 801-1000.
The results published in mid-2024 by QS Quacquarelli Symonds for its 2025 World University Rankings show that Hue University made the list for the first time, at a shared position of 1201-1400. This marks a new milestone for Hue University in its efforts to be listed in the prestigious global university rankings of QS and THE. At the same time, U.S. News & World Report (the USA) announced its 2024 - 2025 Best Global Universities rankings. For the first time, Hue University appeared on this list alongside 8 other Vietnamese higher education institutions.
Dr. Bui Van Loi affirmed that these results are clear evidence of the proper policy of the Party and State in establishing national and regional universities, including Hue University 30 years ago, to promote the strength of its staff and facilities, develop them into high-quality, multi-disciplinary, and multi-field centers for training, scientific research, and technology transfer, playing a leading and pioneering role in Vietnam's higher education system.
Over nearly 70 years of construction and development, particularly the 30 years since its re-establishment under the Decree 30/CP of the Government, Hue University has trained and awarded degrees to 320,265 doctors, pharmacists, engineers, and bachelors; nearly 24,230 master’s degree holders; and nearly 700 doctorate holders. In the period of 2018 - 2025 alone, Hue University has trained and provided society with a large number of high-quality human resources, including approximately 46,000 bachelors, doctors, engineers, and architects; over 7,000 master’s degree holders; more than 200 doctorate holders; and about 7,000 specialist doctors level I and level II.
