The exhibition space introduces to the public the collection of diplomas and valuable documents under the Nguyen Dynasty including Han Nom (Sino-Vietnamese Demotic character) books: Dai Nam Quang Che, Dai Nam Anh nha tien bien, Hoang trieu Ngoc diep…

Additionally, there is also a space to display photos, books, and documents given by individuals and organizations called “The Imprint of Tang Tho Lau in Our Mind” at Tang Tho Lau to honor and give gratitude to readers with their notable gesture, making a great contribution to the conservation and promotion of Tang Tho Lau’s values. On this occasion, organizations and individuals also offer precious books and valuable documents to Hue Monuments Conservation Center.

The highlight of the exhibition is a painting collection “Grande tenue de la cour d’Annam” of artist Nguyen Van Nhan (retired editor of the Academy) painted in Hue in December1902, quoted in “The Illustration Art of costumes and hats in the Nguyen Dynasty in early XX century by Tran Minh Nhut” (Dan Tri Publisher, Ha Noi, 2023). In addition to the documentary photos of kings, queens, and mandarins wearing Nguyen Dynasty costumes, the exhibition also introduces some typical paintings of the artist Nguyen Van Nhan, painted under the era of Emperor Thanh Thai to provide viewers with a more comprehensive view of the costumes in the Nguyen Dynasty.

With a bounteous source of precious documents stored at Tang Tho Lau and many documents given by organizations and individuals, the exhibition is a meaningful activity to connect the flow of the past, contributing to honoring historical values and affirming the indispensable role and importance of reading culture and the value of books in social life.
