From early in the morning, all roads leading to the Buddhist pagodas in Hue were bustling with people. Many families in the traditional ao dai brought incense and flowers to the pagodas to worship Buddha, praying for health and peace for each other.

The flow of people, who travelled to the pagodas such as Tu Hieu, Tu Dam, Tu Van, Hieu Quang, and Thien Ton, etc., was getting more and more crowded. They went to the pagodas with a leisurely and gentle mood of the first day of Lunar New Year.

Burning incense and sincerely worshiping Buddha, everyone wishes for goodness, peace of mind and body for a new year with plans and hopes ahead.

After that, many people walked around the pagodas, enjoyed the scenery, and posed for photos... Some pagodas also set up spaces for visitors to pick good fortune, and "lucky" trees for them to write down their wishes and hand them on the trees.

“This year, the weather is so beautiful. As the sky is blue and sunny, my family goes to the pagoda from early in the morning. My family’s tradition is going to the pagoda at the beginning of the year. With a year starts with peace, we wish that the whole year would always be as desired,” shared Mr. Nguyen Phuc (Hue City).

The following are some photos recorded by Thua Thien Hue Online:

Dishes that instantly signal “Hue Tet is coming”

In Hue, the traditional Lunar New Year “Tet” does not arrive with fanfare. It begins quietly in the kitchen, from a pot of banh tet (a cylindrical sticky rice cake with mung beans and pork) glowing over the fire, from the warm scent of ginger, from a jar of mixed pickled vegetables. Just by looking at these dishes, people in Hue know that Tet is very near.
