Launching the Dau ho experience using VR technology for visitors to Imperial Citadel

Recently, “the VR Virtual Reality Experience Center - Finding the Lost Imperial Palace” has been bringing visitors exciting and vivid experiences of the images of Hue Imperial Palace of 200 years ago using the VR (virtual reality) content. The product has received the attention of many domestic and foreign visitors. Through the experience of technology services with a variety of content such as: VR Spaceship, K-XR TOUR, and AR Photobooth, etc., the Center has been bringing visitors attractive and unique choices when coming to experience at Hue Imperial Citadel.

Promoting the achieved results, the IV COM Joint Stock Company in collaboration with Hue Monuments Conservation Center has been promoting the application of advanced IT technology to continuously develop new technology products and services to serve visitors. This time, it is the launch of the new VR technology service of Dau ho.

Dau ho is one of the court games, which was quite popular during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 - 1945). It is an elegant hobby requiring the dexterity, and was therefore favored by the kings and his courtiers. It was often played in the royal palace during the Tet holiday.

According to Sino characters, “dau” means “to throw, or to toss”, and “ho” means “a vase”. Dau ho is a game in which players use their hands to launch long darts into the mouth of a vase from a distance. The rules are not complicated, but the playing technique requires almost absolute dexterity and precision.

Based on the ancient Dau ho game, the IV COM Joint Stock Company has developed the VR content of Dau ho. This new technology product and service offers visitors a more novel and immersive experience when visiting Hue Imperial Citadel.

The newly introduced “Dau ho VR” product has been developed to allow players to experience the game by wearing a VR headset with the latest specifications. It can be experienced simultaneously by up to 8 people, just like a real-life game.

At the launch ceremony, Ms. Park EunJung, Director of the IV COM Company, shared that IV COM has developed the VR content of Dau ho so that visitors can experience the traditional cultural game of the Nguyen Dynasty through advanced VR technology. “This will be a stepping stone for visitors to Hue Imperial Citadel to learn more about and be more interested in the history and culture of the Nguyen Dynasty, as well as to experience the Vietnamese court game in an exciting way, contributing to the wide promotion of Hue's cultural heritage,” she said.
