At Ngo Mon Gate, the main entrance to Hue Imperial Citadel, crowds streamed in continuously. At several points, parking areas around Ngan Gate became overloaded due to the sharp increase in vehicles. The atmosphere across heritage sites was lively and bustling.
The free admission policy is implemented under Resolution 55/2025/NQ-HDND of Hue City People’s Council, regulating entrance fees and their management at heritage sites. Opening free access not only enables local residents and domestic tourists to engage more closely with heritage, but also helps promote the distinctive cultural and historical values of the Ancient capital.

According to observations, many families and groups of young people chose Hue as their destination during this period. Thanh Nga (Ho Chi Minh City) shared: “We knew Hue is very beautiful this season, so we took the opportunity to visit. The weather is pleasant, the heritage sites are impressive, and the food is excellent. If given the chance, we will definitely come back”.
At the Imperial Citadel, in addition to exploring the history and architectural values of the Nguyen Dynasty, visitors can also enjoy various reenactments of royal court life, such as the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Ngo Mon Gate and performances of Hue Royal Court Music at Duyet Thi Duong Theatre. These experiences help bring the heritage space to life and attract a large number of visitors.
Currently, Hue City offers free admission to heritage sites for Vietnamese citizens on five occasions each year: the first day of the Lunar New Year (Tet holiday), March 26th, August 19th, September 2nd, and November 23rd. In addition, the locality has implemented various support policies, such as free admission for students at all levels within the area and for student groups nationwide participating in extracurricular activities, as well as discounts for university students.
