HNN.VN - The Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone (CM-LC) has become an economic growth pole in Hue City. This place is home to the Chan May Seaport, which is asserting its important position and becoming a crucial link for the formation of a logistics hub of the Central region and the East-West Economic Corridor.

Thanks to its favorable location Chan May Seaport has received many cargo vessels and cruise ships bearing international tourist brands.

Ensuring mass transport

Lying on a strategic location, Chan May Seaport belongs to the system of seaports in Hue City, approved by the Prime Minister as one of the first-class seaports in Vietnam during 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050.

Covering an area of over 700 hectares, including land and water surfaces, Chan May Seaport currently has three specialized and tourism piers with a total length of over 1,000 meters. It can accommodate cargo ships of up to 70,000 tons, container ships with capacities of up to 4,000 TEUs or more, and international cruise ships of up to 225,000 GT.

In addition to the three existing berths, Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company (Hanoi) is investing VND1,700 billion in the construction of two other general berths, No. 4 and No. 5, covering an area of over 26 hectares. These two berths are expected to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2026 with an estimated annual cargo throughput of about 5 million tons of import-export goods. For container ships, the expected cargo volume passing through the port is 80,000–100,000 TEUs per year.

The present ports, equipped with specialized modern cranes, can handle 100 containers per hour. In addition, the storage system is being built by investors such as Phu Thai Global Joint Stock Company and Vietnam Steel Structure and Lifting Equipment Joint Stock Company. The are built to international standards with a capacity of hundreds of thousands of tons, meeting requirements for storage, preservation, and information management.

According to Nguyen Van Chuong, Deputy Director of Chan May Seaport Joint Stock Company, the company continues to invest fully in infrastructure, focusing on improving service quality, increasing loading and unloading capacity, shortening cargo handling time, and offering optimal transportation solutions for customers. In 2024, Chan May Seaport received 800 cargo vessels, container ships, and well-known cruise liners such as Celebrity Solstice, Queen Mary 2, etc. The total cargo throughput at the port reached 7.5 million tons and the port received 80,145 tourists and crew members. In the first five months of 2025, Chan May Seaport (berths No. 1 and No. 2) received over 350 cargo vessels, container ships and cruise ships. The total cargo volume handled reached 5.6 million tons, and more than 76,000 groups of tourist and crew members, accounting for nearly 50% of the annual plan.

During his visit and attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the general berth (container terminals No. 4 and 5) at Vsico Chan May Seaport in April 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Chan May Seaport has a very important position. It is a national deep-water general seaport and a regional hub. It also serves as the terminal point of the East-West Economic Corridor, possessing the potential, conditions, and many advantages not only for local socio-economic development but also for the development of the whole country. The PM stressed the importance of the construction progress, the breakwater system, as well as investment plans for related infrastructure, transportation, and services particularly at the Chan May Logistics Center, in order to reduce transportation costs across the Central Highlands region and the Laos -Thailand East-West Economic Corridor.

Connecting and boosting inter-region transportation

Maritime economy is one of the key directions for Hue City with the port system with Chan May Seaport as the economic center of the Central and Vietnam.

Currently, in addition to National Highway 1A, the Cam Lo-Tuy Loan expressway and many upgraded major roads in Hue City have been widened and improved. This creates favorable conditions for cargo sources, especially from the North, the South, the Central Highlands, lower central Laos, and northeastern Thailand. Therefore, once the infrastructure at the port is planned to complete in the coming years, the Chan May area is expected to become a multipurpose and specialized logistics hub in Central Vietnam. At the same time, the domestic and international shipping routes to and from Chan May will offer businesses optimal services.

On March 26th, at CM-LC Economic Zone, LEC Joint Stock Company began the construction of Chan May Logistics Center, with an area of more than 33 hectares, including a storage system, a cargo coordination center, customs and transportation services with the budget of more than VND1,500 billion. The construction will be finished in 24 months.

According to Tran Duc Tuan, Chairman of LEC Group, in a speech, when Chan May Logistics Center is put into operation, it will become a crucial link in the supply chain not only domestically but also internationally, contributing to maximizing the potential and favorable geographical location of the port while providing a strong impetus for the sustainable development of the CM-LC Economic Zone and the key economic region of the Central.

According to the management board of Hue City Economic and Industrial Zone, the development of Chan May Seaport has been contributing to optimizing logistics activities and opening the door to investment at local industrial zones in particular and the whole Central Vietnam in general.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee, CM-LC with its strategic location, the full investment in infrastructure and equipment, and favorable policies is expected to become a major logistics center in Central Vietnam, contributing to boosting trade and economic development in the region and the inter-regions.
