The opening doors
Among hundreds of participants joining “2025 Sustainable Job Fair” held by Hue City Department of Home Affairs, in collaboration with Hue College recently on September 12, recent Hue University of Economics graduate Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung expressed her excitement. Nhung, who is seeking a career in finance and accounting, said it was her first time attending such a large-scale recruitment event. She highlighted the opportunity to meet many businesses at once. It helped both her and other participants save time and open new prospects for her career.
Sharing the same sense of anticipation, but in a different situation, was Mr. Tran Van Loi, 32 years old, coming from Phu Bai Ward, a former tile factory worker. After several months of unemployment due to the round of layoffs at his previous company, his family has faced challenges. He came to the job fair with the hope of finding a stable job to support his wife and children. “I see that many garment and footwear companies are recruiting thousands of workers, and there are also agencies offering overseas employment opportunities. I hope to seize this chance and return to the workforce soon,” he expressed.
The stories of Ms. Nhung and Mr. Loi partly reflect the significance of the job fair, which not only connects students and workers with businesses but also opens new doors for those in need of a job to stabilize their lives.
2025 Sustainable Job Fair attracted nearly 40 businesses, vocational schools, and training institutions, offering over 12,000 job vacancies and enrollment opportunities; in which, around 7,000 positions were for labor recruitment, while over 5,000 slots were for college and vocational training enrollment. The event served as a bridge, helping workers access opportunities while enabling businesses to find suitable human resources.
According to Mr. Tran Van My, Chairman of Hue City Business Association, the current recruitment demand of local enterprises is both high and diverse. “In addition to on-site interviews at the job fair, many companies are also conducting recruitment directly at their factories and improving benefit policies, from accommodation and meals to salaries and welfare to retain workers long-term and attract new talent,” Mr. My shared.
Accompanying businesses and workers
Hue City has identified labor market development as a key priority. In the first half of this year, the city created jobs for nearly 10,900 people (fulfilling 61.6% of the annual target and up 8.9% compared to the same period in 2024). Vocational education institutions enrolled more than 23,200 trainees, raising the proportion of trained workers to 75%.
Along with this, the city has been actively implementing a range of preferential credit measures to help workers improve their livelihoods and achieve stable employment. In 2025, from the allocated budget, the City People’s Committee distributed VND 45 billion through Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to support loans for both domestic and overseas employment. To date, the bank has disbursed more than VND 417.6 billion for over 6,700 loan applications, benefiting over 6,700 workers in securing stable employment. The city has also conducted various programs on labor policies, unemployment insurance, and occupational safety and health, from in-person training sessions to digital platforms and the press.
Mr. Nguyen Van Choi, General Director of Daystar International Training Investment Company, stated: ‘Thanks to the timely intervention of the relevant authorities, obstacles in loan procedures have been resolved, allowing workers to set their minds at rest as they prepare to go abroad. This is clear evidence of the government’s close attention to businesses,” said Mr. Choi.
At the “Sustainable Job Fair”, Mr. Nguyen Chi Tai, Standing Member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee, affirmed that the city will continue prioritizing investment in disadvantaged areas and ethnic minority communities; introducing new mechanisms and policies to support youth and women in entrepreneurship; and encouraging enterprises to employ more local workers. At the same time, the city is modernizing labor market management through the application of digital technology, the development of online platforms, and the acceleration of administrative reform.
The long-term orientation is to align vocational education with the needs of businesses and the labor market, fostering tripartite collaboration among schools, authorities, and enterprises. This aims to ensure the work of workforce training closely matches demand, helping workers secure stable employment while providing businesses with a quality labor force.
“The goal is to build a modern, flexible, and sustainable labor market that both creates opportunities for workers and meets the development needs of businesses. This is also one of the key pillars for Hue to achieve rapid and sustainable growth, worthy of its status as a centrally-governed municipality,” affirmed Nguyen Chi Tai, Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee.
