Strengthening the friendship between Hue and Savannakhet

HNN.VN - Concluding the official visit to provinces in Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the afternoon of April 12th, a delegation from Hue City led by Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the City People’s Committee, visited, held talks, and extended Bunpimay New Year 2026 greetings in Savannakhet Province. On the side of Savannakhet Province, the delegation was received by Mr. Daovone Xaysoulien, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Government, along with leaders of relevant departments and sectors.

Chairman Nguyen Khac Toan stated that in 2025, Hue continued to achieve positive results, with GRDP growth reaching 8,5%, state budget revenue totaling nearly 14,96 trillion VND, and strong tourism growth with visitor numbers increasing by 61,5% during the National Tourism Year 2025. The city is focusing on implementing the Resolution of the 17th City Party Congress and adjusting its sustainable development planning based on four pillars: education and training, culture and tourism, science and technology, and specialized healthcare.

Chairman Toan emphasized that the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos, as well as the cooperation between Hue City and Savannakhet Province, has continued to be strengthened and developed positively across multiple sectors. The two sides agreed to effectively implement the signed cooperation contents while expanding collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, healthcare, and education; enhancing business connectivity; and promoting the advantages of the East–West Economic Corridor.

Notably, cooperation in the healthcare sector has continued to be maintained effectively. Hue City has created favorable conditions for officials and residents of Savannakhet Province to receive medical examination and treatment at Hue Central Hospital and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, while also coordinating training and technology transfer to improve healthcare quality. In the coming time, both sides will promote people-to-people exchanges, strengthen tourism promotion linked with cultural and tourism activities and Hue Festival, and create favorable conditions, in accordance with host country regulations, for workers from Hue City living and working in Savannakhet.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Daovone Xaysoulien, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Government of Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR, highly appreciated the practical and effective results of cooperation between the two localities, particularly in cultural exchanges, tourism development, and human resource training. He emphasized that these cooperative activities not only contribute to the socio-economic development of each locality but also continue to strengthen and nurture the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

In the coming period, he expressed his hope that both sides will continue to increase exchanges of delegations at all levels, maintain regular coordination mechanisms, and further expand cooperation in a more in-depth and practical manner, especially in key areas such as culture, tourism, education and training, and high-quality human resource development, thereby meeting development requirements in the new phase.

Within the framework of the visit, Hue City and Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR, signed a supplementary cooperation agreement for the 2022 - 2026 period, under which Hue City will continue to support human resource training for Savannakhet Province, increasing the number of scholarships to 15 per year.
