HNN.VN - On the afternoon of August 10th, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Tran Huu Thuy Giang met with Ms. Dang Thi Thu Ha, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Turkey, and Dr. Vu Le Thai Hoang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Republic of Austria.

The meeting aimed to review cooperation achievements to date and discuss directions for strengthening comprehensive relations between Hue City and partners in the two countries in the coming period.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Huu Thuy Giang affirmed that Hue is a distinctive cultural, tourism, and heritage center of Vietnam and the region. The city has been proactive in expanding international relations, strengthening cultural exchanges, attracting investment, promoting innovation, and developing the cultural industries and digital economy. Appreciating the role of the two embassies as bridges for cooperation, the city leader expressed his hope that all parties would work closely together to turn ideas discussed into specific and practical cooperation programs.

Reviewing key milestones in cooperation with Austria, city leaders noted that in early April 2026, a delegation from Krems (Lower Austria), led by its mayor, visited Hue. The visit resulted in the signing of a tripartite Letter of Intent on cooperation among the City of Krems, IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences, and Hue Department of Foreign Affairs in the fields of education, tourism, heritage conservation, and green development.

In June 2026, a Hue City delegation led by the Chairman of Hue City People's Committee held talks with the President of the Lower Austrian State Parliament and the Deputy Mayor of Krems. Both sides agreed to work toward signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Hue and Lower Austria in 2027, marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Austria. Hue Department of Tourism and the Department of Foreign Affairs are currently working with IMC Krems University to develop a training program to strengthen the management capacity of local tourism officials in 2027.

On this basis, Hue City called on Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang to continue supporting efforts to facilitate the signing of the MOU, connect travel businesses to promote Hue tourism in Austria and Europe, and expand cooperation in sending skilled Vietnamese workers (particularly in nursing and hospitality) to work and undertake internships in Austria.

Regarding Turkey, Hue City highlighted the long-standing tradition of cultural exchanges between the two sides, notably the participation of Turkish artistic delegations in Hue Festivals in 2008 and 2010, as well as high-level delegation exchanges with the city of Konya in 2018 - 2019. Konya shares many similarities with Hue in terms of heritage and former imperial capital status, and both cities are members of the League of Historical Cities (LHC) and the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC).

Hue City leaders expressed their hope that Ambassador Dang Thi Thu Ha would help reconnect Hue with Konya and facilitate connections with Turkish businesses interested in exploring investment opportunities in Hue. The city also welcomed plans for cooperation among Hue City People's Committee, the embassy, and GOSU Online Joint Stock Company to include the ‘Turkish & MENA Cultural Exchange Night in Hue’ in the GOSUVerse program (expected to be held in June 2027).

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Huu Thuy Giang assigned the Department of Foreign Affairs to serve as the focal point for coordinating with the two embassies to advance the proposed areas of cooperation. He also instructed the Department of Culture and Sports to prepare the necessary conditions for cultural and technology exchange events, contributing to positioning Hue as a destination for the creative cultural industries and sustainable development.
