Boosting Cooperation Between Hue City and Krems City

HNN.VN - On the evening of April 3, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Tran Huu Thuy Giang had a meeting with the working delegation from the City of Krems (Krems an der Donau - Republic of Austria), led by Mayor Peter Molnar. Attending the working meeting were Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Philipp Agathonos and Dr. Heinz Boyer, President of IMC Krems University, along with representatives from relevant departments and agencies of both sides.

Mayor Peter Molnar conveyed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Hue’s leadership. He said the visit is intended to carry out the Lower Austrian Governor’s directive to survey and pursue long-term cooperation opportunities with Hue in areas of shared interest.

Highly appreciating the special cultural values and the potential in tourism and educational development of Hue City, the mayor expressed his desire that the two localities would soon establish formal cooperation, focusing on areas such as human resource training, healthcare, sustainable tourism, and cultural exchange. He also proposed that the parties align on key contents toward the signing of a letter of intent between Krems City, IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, and Hue Department of Foreign Affairs, laying the groundwork for concrete cooperation programs in the time ahead.

Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Philipp Agathonos also highly appreciated the cooperation potential between the two localities, affirming his continued role as a bridge to support and promote collaborative programs between Hue and Austrian partners. He expressed confidence that ties between Hue and Lower Austria in particular, as well as between Vietnam and Austria in general, will be further strengthened and develop sustainably.

Within the working meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Huu Thuy Giang welcomed the delegate’s visit and affirmed that this presents a crucial opportunity for both sides to enhance mutual understanding and expand cooperation across multiple sectors. He also provided an overview of Hue’s potential and strengths, particularly in culture, education, specialized healthcare and tourism.

Currently, Hue has established and maintained cooperative ties with numerous European partners in various sectors, including trade and investment, development assistance, healthcare, education, culture and heritage preservation. The city will continue to expand its international partnerships, with a focus on strengthening connections with Austrian counterparts toward sustainable development.

The Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Tran Huu Thuy Giang proposed enhancing cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including industry; development of industrial parks, non-tariff zones and urban areas; investment in and operation of seaports; supporting industries such as textiles, electronics and automotive; green urban and technical infrastructure development; healthcare; education and training; information technology; and high-tech, sustainable agriculture.

Both sides are also expected to step up cooperation in culture and tourism through heritage conservation linked to sustainable tourism development; the organization of festivals and cultural events; tourism workforce training; and the exchange of experience in managing heritage cities in a green and smart direction. At the same time, they will explore promotional initiatives such as tourism roadshows introducing Hue in Krems, as well as Hue - Krems cultural exchanges within the framework of Hue Festival and in Lower Austria.

Hue is also encouraging travel companies to develop and refresh Europe - Vietnam tour programs, with a focus on the Austrian market, incorporating Hue - Krems as destinations in both inbound and outbound tours.

Emphasizing Hue’s development orientation toward becoming a heritage, cultural, ecological, landscape-oriented, and environmentally friendly city, Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Tran Huu Thuy Giang expressed his agreement with the proposed areas of cooperation, while assigning relevant agencies to continue the discussions and finalize the details for implementation in the time ahead.

On this occasion, three parties, including Krems City, IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, and Hue Department of Foreign Affairs, signed a letter of intent on cooperation. This marks an important milestone, laying a foundation for strengthening friendly relations and opening up a wide range of concrete cooperation opportunities in the time ahead.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Tran Huu Thuy Giang presented a commemorative gift to Mayor Peter Molnar. Delegates also posed for a group photo, marking a meaningful milestone in cooperation between the two localities.
