Promoting collaboration in treating pediatric cancer with Japanese doctors

HNN.VN - On February 16, Professor Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital welcomed Professor Hiroyuki Shichino and the delegation from Japan. This is the visit of Professor Hiroyuki Shichino as the Head of the Department of Pediatrics, NCGM Hospital before he retires.

Professor Shichino has worked with Hue Central Hospital for 10 years, supporting training and capacity building in pediatric cancer treatment for the staff.

He has trained doctors including Pediatric Oncologist, Pediatric Surgeons, Pathologists, Radiologists, Pediatric Radiation Therapists, Pediatric and Neonatal Emergency doctors in Japan.

Every Wednesday, the Professor also holds a "tumor board" meeting with doctors from the Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Hue Central Hospital to discuss difficult cases in order to find the best treatment for the patients.

Besides the field of training, the Professor also cooperates with the Hospital in organizing the Annual Pediatric Oncology Symposium, with the topic of Pediatric Oncology. He also sent Japanese experts to attend the symposium and share experiences as well as support the Hospital in establishing the Pediatric clinical practice guidelines.

Professor Shichino with Professor Mochizuki, his successor and Professor Yoneda to maintain the relationship and further cooperation with Hue Central Hospital.

Professor Shinji Mochizuki previously worked at Hiroshima Hospital, Japan, specializing in Pediatric Oncology, especially in the field of pediatric bone marrow transplant. This is the second time that Professor Shinji Mochizuki comes to Hue Central Hospital. Following his predecessor, Professor Mochizuki hopes that the collaboration between Japan and Vietnam will develop more strongly and support more children, all for public health.

On the morning of March 25, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had held a discharge ceremony for a pediatric patient with thalassemia (a hereditary blood disorder) following a successful bone marrow transplant using marrow donated by the patient’s older sister. This is the 15th thalassemia bone marrow transplant performed at the hospital, marking an important step forward in the treatment of genetic hematologic diseases.
