With the participation of over 450 delegates and representatives from French-speaking cities, the first meeting of the conference discussed three topics: “Smart and Digital Cities”, “Cities Responding to Emergencies”, and “Cities and the Process of Economic Transition”. The session also featured presentations on projects and models for building smart cities through digital technology, as well as issues related to resources and methods for responding to climate change.
Within the network of French-speaking Mayors, Hue is an active city on issues related to culture, heritage, and sustainable development. AIMF has also supported the city with various programs, including the establishment of the French-speaking Student Welcome Center in 1998 (part of the space is now used for the activities of the French Institute in Hue), the renovation of the environment and heritage in the Hue Imperial Citadel area (2003-2008), and more recently, the construction of a sludge treatment station aimed at developing an economic sector to produce and resell fertilizers for agricultural activities (such as rice farming, crop cultivation, gardening, and maintaining urban green spaces).
Hue City is developing numerous bilateral cooperation projects with French-speaking cities, with a strong focus on heritage conservation. The French-speaking Mayor’s Conference will provide an opportunity to delve deeper into these partnerships while establishing new ones. This year’s conference in Hue contributes to maintaining exchanges and interactions between AIMF member cities in the ASEAN region, focusing on digital technology and promoting the values of the heritage.
