Hue Central Hospital won the first prize for The Southeast Asian Laparoscopic Challenge 2023

HNN.VN - On the morning of October 30th, Hue Central Hospital informed about the valuable above-mentioned award at “The Southeast Asian Laparoscopic Challenge 2023 through Colorectal Surgery Recorded Video” organized by the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons in Bangkok, Thailand, in late October.

The competition was initiated through the collaboration of The Vietnam Association of Endolaparoscopic Surgeons and The ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons from June to August 2023.

After the preliminary round, The Vietnam Association of Endolaparoscopic Surgeons selected the best video from the surgical team at Hue Central Hospital Base 1 and Base 2 to participate in the final round organized by the Southeast Asian region.

The conference on updating new surgical techniques in the treatment of colorectal cancer had presenters coming from leading surgical centers in the region.

The Vietnamese delegation was represented by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Thinh and Dr. Tran Van Huy from the Ho Chi Minh Medical University Hospital, and Dr. Vu Hoai Anh from Hue Central Hospital. Following that was the final night of the colorectal cancer surgery video competition, with a panel of three leading experts in the field of colorectal surgery in the Asia-Pacific region as judges."

The final night was a competition among the 4 best videos, and the video from the surgical team at Hue Central Hospital achieved the highest position in the competition. Professors from South Korea and China highly appreciated the surgical skills, precision in anatomical landmarks, and the quality of cancer treatment in the video.

This award once again affirms the prestige and the maintained high quality of training through generations at Hue Central Hospital in all fields, especially in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

Currently, the unit has made remarkable progress in the treatment of colorectal cancer in particular, and cancer diseases in general. Many scientific research projects have been conducted, with regular updated world-class treatment protocols, and application of the most advanced techniques to improve the quality of cancer treatment for patients."

Professor, Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, the President of Hue Central Hospital, was the first person to published on the prestigious British Journal of Surgery, the results of treating a group of colorectal cancer patients using Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES). The project 'Research on the Application of Single-Port and Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery in the Treatment of Colorectal Cancer' won the First Prize in VIFOTEC Vietnam and the Second Prize in the Medical field of the 'Vietnamese Talent Awards' in 2016.
