During the recent youth camp festival on March 26th at the University of Sciences, Hue University, the booth of the Faculty of Environment was filled with laughter thanks to two special guests from Japan: Yamamoto Airi and Sugiyama Rin. Both are students participating in an academic exchange program at the Faculty of Environment. Airi and Rin captured fellows’ attention with their friendly and cheerful appearance. Vietnamese students were delighted to hear Airi introduce Japanese culture, while Rin endeared herself by learning to speak Vietnamese with an adorable accent.
"During my three months of studying in Hue, the city gave me a feeling of being very peaceful, gentle, and rich in culture. I had the chance to participate in several Youth Union activities organized by the faculty and the university. These are unforgettable memories, and I hope to return to Hue someday," Airi shared.
Also in March, the Faculty of Environment welcomed a delegation of professors and students from Ferris University (Yokohama, Japan) as part of an international academic exchange program focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over the course of a week, students from both sides of the Pacific explored Hue's nature together, shared their expertise, and spread the spirit of a young generation looking toward a green future.
During their days in Hue, the students from Ferris University were fascinated by the diversity of nature in the ancient capital. When visiting the Rú Chá mangrove forest (Huong Phong Ward, Thuan Hoa District), they experienced an eco-tourism model that combines tourism with nature conservation. They also had the opportunity to visit Bach Ma National Park (Phu Loc District). Amid the pristine mountainous landscapes, the young students from the Land of the Rising Sun were amazed by the biodiversity, the beauty of the forest layers, and Hue's conservation efforts.
"I truly admire Hue’s wonderful nature. From riverside ecosystems to rolling mountain ranges, from mangrove forests to tropical gardens, each place has its own unique beauty. What impressed me the most was how harmoniously people live with the environment. This trip not only helped me understand more about Vietnam and Hue but also made me love my field of study even more," said Aiko Tanaka, a student from Ferris University.
Alongside field activities, students from both universities also participated in academic exchange sessions at Hue University. The presentations and discussions were not only opportunities to share knowledge but also allowed participants to better understand educational methods and approaches to environmental issues in the two countries.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Cong Tin, Dean of the Faculty of Environment, these exchange activities help expand students' knowledge about global environmental issues. They also provide Hue students with international friendships, helping them develop communication skills, teamwork abilities, and cultural awareness, thereby creating opportunities for comprehensive personal growth.
"Through the discussions and field trips together, I learned a lot from the way Japanese students observe, ask questions, and analyze problems. What impressed me the most was their meticulousness and careful attention to every aspect of the environment," shared Doan Minh Vu, a student of the Faculty of Environment.
The experience in Hue has become a precious memory in the growth journey of each international student. Enjoyable lessons, hesitant Vietnamese utterances, conversations through both oral language and body language … all have built valuable bonds in both learning and life.
