Before flowing into neighboring Laos, the A Sap River gathers alluvial deposits that enrich the riverbanks, creating a vast watershed for the A Luoi region. From this advantage, “fishermen” in the highlands have developed capture fisheries and aquaculture, contributing to the formation of a riverside community - future prosperous “fishing villages” along the river.

On the morning of February 28 (the 12th day of the first lunar month in the Year of the Horse), at the Thai Duong Cultural Village Communal House in Thuan An Ward, the 2026 traditional Fish Worshipping (Cau Ngu) Festival officially opened in a solemn and vibrant atmosphere, attracting a large number of People, fishermen, and visitors.

Along the coastal regions of Central Vietnam, especially in the city of Hue, seahorses are not only a supplementary source of income for many fishermen but also an indicator of a healthy marine ecosystem. As seahorse populations continue to decline, reproductive research models and collaborations between fishermen and scientific institutions are opening up new hope: preserving this unique species for future generations.

According to the leaders of Phong Quang, Phong Phu wards… in the early days of 2026, fishermen along the former Ngu Dien nearshore coastal area have continuously landed bumper early-season herring catches, generating substantial income after short fishing trips. As of January 21st, the total early-season herring output in the former Ngu Dien area is estimated at dozens of tons.

In the coastal fishing villages of Phu Vang District, nearshore fishermen have begun their first voyages of the year, setting sail to welcome the sea’s early blessings.

For those living near the Tam Giang Lagoon, it is common to experience several floods each year. While flood season provokes anxieties over the safety of lives and property, it also allows fishermen to increase their income because the rising water brings an abundance of economically valuable aquatic species.

As a “pillar of the community” with over 40 years of experience, Nguyen Ha (Giang Hai, Phu Loc) is not only revered for his deft hands but also respected by fellow fishermen for his dedication to the craft of net weaving and his journeys on the open sea.

On the morning of September 25th, the Center for Social Work and the Child Protection Fund (CSW-CPF), in collaboration with the Vietnam Child Protection Fund and the Hope Foundation, organized a scholarship award program for students with disabilities, agent orange victims from various districts, towns, and Hue City, as well as children of fishermen facing difficult circumstances in Quang Dien and Phu Loc districts.

Nearly three hours after casting, the net was hauled onto the boat by skilled fishermen. To the rhythm of the waves, the boat pulled ashore, in the basket containing manna from the sea, the eel catfish attracted the attention from buyers.
