On the Lantern Festival (the Full Moon of the First Lunar Month) more than 15 years ago, the most “pure Hue native” friend I know, architect Nguyen Trong Huan, and I put on thin raincoats and walked together through the light, drifting drizzle to search for Hue’s culinary specialties. Having lived in this city for many years, Huan still longed for the flavors he once tasted.

After more than 10 days of activities, Hue Spring Festival of the year of the Horse 2026, themed “Identity and Integration” organized by the People’s Committee of Hue City, officially concluded on the afternoon of February 21 (the 5th day of the Lunar January) at Ly Tu Trong Park (Le Loi Street, Thuan Hoa Ward).

On the afternoon of February 19, at Keiser University (28 Nguyen Tri Phuong), a non-profit community event themed “Spring Awakening of Dreams: The Journey of Hue people to the World's Top 1% Universities” took place in a warm and inspiring atmosphere. The program gathered notable figures from Hue, who conquered the world's top prestigious universities, returning to engage in direct dialogue with the younger generation in their hometown.

The song “Tinh ca Mua xuan” (“Spring Love Song”) by Tran Hoan, set to a poem by Nguyen Loan, was born in the spring of 1979 and spread quickly in life in the early years after the reunification. Nearly half a century later, the song still resonates, becoming one of the most beloved songs about spring in the treasure of Vietnamese music.

From the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 17), the spring travel atmosphere in Hue has been vibrant and festive. Visitors from across Vietnam, along with international tourists, have chosen the former imperial capital as their holiday destination, creating a lively tourism scene on the very first day of the New Year.

On the evening of February 16 (the 29th day of the Lunar December), just before the sacred moment of Lunar New Year’s Eve welcoming the Binh Ngo Spring 2026, city leaders visited and extended New Year greetings to agencies, organizations, businesses, and personnel on duty.

On the afternoon of February 16th (the Tet Eve), Hue Central Hospital organized a Tet gift-giving program for inpatients on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.

Young designer Linda Hoang (born Hoang Kim Ngoc Uyen Nhi in 1992 in Hue City) is transforming the traditional ao dai by bringing dragon-horse patterns and royal court motifs to linen garments and modern fashion. ​

On February 13th, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee, and Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee, conducted a field survey and inspection of inland waterway tourism routes to assess their current status, development potential, and prospects for investment in tourism products and services.

On the morning of February 13th, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan Hoa Ward organized a program giving gift and assistance for 386 local households that suffered severe damage due to heavy rains and flooding.

At this year's Festival, visitors and local people will be able to admire generations of artisans doing their crafts and experiencing many craft activities from the central and surrounding areas of Hue city.

According to the Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, the Hue Nam Temple (or Hon Chen Temple) Festival took place over two days, from April 21st to 22nd

With a view to bringing exciting experiences for tourists visiting Hue Royal Palace, Hue Monuments Conservation Center has opened a tour for tourists to enjoy tea within the area of Hue Imperial Citadel.

At the turn of April, ngô đồng (or Parasol) flowers around the Royal Palace and many places around the city have started to bloom.

Vietnamese Zen poetry week in Hue in the past few days has not only contributed to reaffirming the values of Zen poetry throughout history, but also affording the public an opportunity to once again contemplate the beautiful, meaningful words and ideas of the ancestors. The event aims to contribute to the everlasting existence of Zen poetry in the Vietnamese literature and culture.

According to the Tourism Department, the International Hot Air Balloon Festival themed “The beauty of Hue - the ancient capital” is scheduled to take place from April 10th to 18th.
