The “Emperor’s Treasure” golden seal
HNN.VN - The following are some photos taken by Nguyen Phuc Bao Minh, a photographer, during a visit to the Nam Hong Royal Museum (Tu Son, Bac Ninh), with a working group of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, where the “Emperor’s Treasure” golden seal is displayed by Mr. Nguyen The Hong, a businessman.
The “Emperor’s Treasure” golden seal is cast in pure gold, which is the largest and most beautiful golden seal of the Nguyen Dynasty. The seal handle is a winding dragon, with the head holding high and the eyes looking straight ahead. The top of the dragon's head is engraved with a character meaning the emperor; its dorsal fin is upright; and its caudal fin curving forward; the dragon's four legs clearly show its five claws. According to Prof. Dr. Trinh Sinh, the “Emperor’s Treasure” golden seal is among the 14 gold and jade seals that Emperor Minh Mang had ordered to craft during his reign. Of these, 13 seals are kept at the Vietnam National Museum of History. The only remaining one is the “Emperor’s Treasure” golden seal, which had a difficult fate but was eventually repatriated, creating a perfect and complete collection of seals from the Minh Mang reign.
The “Emperor’s Treasure” golden seal was auctioned by Mr. Nguyen The Hong, Chairman of Bac Ninh Antiquities Association, for about VND 154 billion. Thua Thien Hue Weekly would like to introduce it to readers.
