Vibrant Sports Festival Held in Hoa Chau, Phong Dien District

HNN.VN - On April 5, the People’s Committee of Hoa Chau Ward officially opened the 1st Sports Festival for the 2025-2026 period. The event drew strong participation from a wide range of groups, including residential quarters, schools, and armed forces units, with the partaking of outstanding athletes who have achieved notable results at both city and national levels.

Following the torch relay, a parade of 33 contingents representing socio-political organizations, armed forces, the education sector, and local communities was held, generating a lively atmosphere and highlighting the broad-based growth of grassroots sports activities.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, the tug-of-war competition was held, energizing the event and fostering a stronger sense of community solidarity. Earlier, athletics and cross-country marathons had been organized in connection with the Olympic Run Day for Public Health 2026.

According to the organizing committee, this year’s festival features 8 competition events, implemented comprehensively to ensure transparency, fairness, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Notably, the football tournament has attracted 19 teams, delivering a series of exciting matches with strong professional quality, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere, and drawing large crowds of spectators and supporters.

Mr. Vo Viet Duc, Vice Chairman of Hoa Chau Ward People’s Committee, informed that the sports festival provides a platform to further advance public participation in sports and physical exercise, contributing to improved community health and a more civilized urban lifestyle. He noted that the event also fosters a vibrant spirit of friendly competition while strengthening solidarity and cohesion at the grassroots level.

On the same day, the People’s Committee of Phong Dien Ward also held the 1st Sports Festival for the 2025-2026 period. The event attracted over 2,000 athletes competing across 9 sports, including volleyball, men’s football, tug-of-war, badminton, Chinese chess…

Immediately following the opening ceremony, the final match of the men’s football tournament took place. In the end, Trach Huu’s residential team secured a 3-1 victory over Khanh My’s team. Earlier, other competition events of the festival had also been completed.

At the conclusion of the festival, the organizing committee awarded the overall first prize to Hung Thai residential quarter, the second prize to Dong Lai, and the third prize to Vinh Nguyen. In the men’s football event, Trach Huu claimed the championship title, while Khanh My finished as runners-up. Joint third-place honors were awarded to Dong Thai and Tan Lap 1.

According to Mr. Thanh Manh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Phong Dien Ward People’s Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee, the event holds significant importance in further promoting the campaign “All People Exercise Following the Great Example of President Ho Chi Minh”. It provides a healthy and meaningful platform for recreation, strengthens exchanges and solidarity among residential areas, agencies, and units, while also showcasing forces and encouraging the mass sports movement. Through the festival, the organizers can comprehensively assess the development of grassroots sports activities in recent years, as well as identify and select outstanding athletes to represent the ward at the city-level sports festival in 2026.
