Hue General University was established on October 27th, 1976, following the restructuring of the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Letters under the former University of Hue. Over the past five decades, generations of staff, lecturers and students have contributed to building its academic traditions, advancing scientific research, training human resources and serving the community.
At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Tung, Rector of the University of Sciences, Hue University, presented a report reviewing the university's performance during the 2020-2025 period and outlining its strategic directions for the years ahead.
According to the report, the university has maintained a 100% enrolment rate, published an average of 94 scientific papers indexed in Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus each year, and achieved approximately 75% financial autonomy. Building on these achievements, the university aims to develop into an innovation- and entrepreneurship-driven institution. Its mission towards 2045 is to foster well-rounded individuals, generate knowledge, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and serve society.
To achieve these goals, the university has identified four strategic pillars: reforming governance and developing human resources; improving training quality; advancing science, technology and innovation; and investing in infrastructure, accelerating digital transformation and strengthening financial autonomy. It will also focus on developing more application-oriented training programs, preparing human resources for high-tech industries, and promoting the transfer and commercialisation of research findings.
Discussions at the seminar focused on the innovation-driven university model, cooperation in training high-tech human resources, laboratory development, joint research projects and the commercialization of scientific products. The university also aims to create a modern learning and research environment, develop its young teaching staff, attract more students to fundamental science disciplines and expand its alumni network.
