Shimmering hues
In the serene setting of An Yen Station, participants in the class in painting to hang up for Tet focus intently on their works. On canvas surfaces, delicate motifs in shimmering hues gradually take shape, becoming vivid and animated.
Tuyet Loan, a painter, shared: “These are relief paintings created using glass sand, acrylic paint, and white glue. Thanks to the varying thickness of the materials and the sparkle of tiny glass particles, this style achieves an exceptionally refined 3D effect”.
Not only visually appealing, the textured surface of glass relief paintings also provides a tactile, therapeutic sensation for the painter. Thus, the young artist selected this medium to create a novel and distinctive experiential space, allowing participants to explore their creativity using palette knives and brushes.
At the workshop, from color mixing and sand blending to mastering palette knife and brush techniques, participants received detailed guidance to create unique paintings hanging for Tet, bearing their personal imprint.
Choosing white apricot blossoms as her subject, workshop participant Thao Van shared: “For me, white apricot blossoms not only signal the arrival of spring but also symbolize purity and renewal. I want to send wishes for peace and good fortune in the new year through these radiant flowers”.
Sending dreams
To maximize the aesthetic impact of the apricot blossom painting, instead of using traditional bright red, Tuyet Loan guided Van to apply a deep crimson tone as the dominant background color. She explained: “More tender and gentler on the eyes, deep crimson conveys good fortune while creating a warm impression for the space. It is therefore ideal for highlighting the blossoms while remaining its application to everyday life”.

After completing the crimson background, Van was instructed to shape each petal with a palette knife. Following more than three hours of meticulous work, her vibrant white apricot blossom painting was finished. She happily remarked: “I will hang this painting in the living room, where I can see it every day. I hope the new year will bring peace and good fortune to my family, just as I have expressed in this artwork”.
Sharing similar sentiments, other participants infused their relief paintings with wishes and aspirations for the coming year. Huong Tra, another attendee, said: “At this workshop, I painted young sprouts. I hope the freshness and vitality of these green shoots will bring luck and positive things in the new year”.
Meaningful and practical, the relief painting workshop is more than a simple experiential activity; it offers participants an immersive artistic space. “That is why, not only this Tet but every year, I organize workshops on painting to hang up for Tet so that participants can freely create and relax. I hope the shimmering colors in each painting will carry the breath of spring to everyone,” artist Tuyet Loan shared.
