Many hearts turned toward Hue
Upon hearing the news that his hometown was suffering heavy damage from consecutive major floods, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Vinh, Chairman of Hue Fellow-countrymen Association in Ho Chi Minh City, sent a letter calling on members - Hue people living far from home, to contribute money and materials to support people in Hue. Since October 29, the Association has mobilized everyone to join hands toward compatriots in the Central region, especially the ones who have suffered heavy losses in Hue City. After four days of calling for support, the Association received over 900 million VND in cash, and 25 tons of necessities such as rice, instant noodles, milk, clothes, and dry food... On the night of November 1, amidst pouring rain, two trucks carrying dozens of tons of goods departed to reach Hue as quickly as possible, coordinating with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City to support the people.
In his role as Chairman of the Association, Mr. Tran Xuan Vinh and some members flew to Hue, and directly went to heavily flooded and severely damaged areas to coordinate with commune authorities in providing timely cash assistance and necessities to people. Two weeks later, with the support from Dragon Capital Vietfund Management Company, Mr. Vinh and sponsors presented 760 million VND to help Hue people overcome flood consequences. Notably, this donation included 460 million VND to support 46 pediatric cancer patients undergoing treatment at Hue Central Hospital.
These days, the office of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City at 4 Le Hong Phong Street has continuously welcomed volunteer groups and relief delegations from across the country. Many provinces, cities, businesses, and organizations have come directly to donate cash and materials to support the people. The Kim Oanh Group was one of the earliest to arrive, donating 10 billion VND, including 200 tons of rice and cash to provide timely support to people in the flood-hit areas. Every bag of rice and every gift handed out serves as the encouragement, lighting a beacon of hope amidst post-disaster hardships. From everywhere, both within and outside the locality, the flow of love is rushing toward Hue.
According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City, as of November 17, the agency has received over 110 billion VND, along with dozens of tons of goods and necessities from organizations, businesses, benefactors, and localities. Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and provinces like Dong Nai, Quang Tri, and Thai Nguyen, along with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Ministry of Public Security, etc., have all sent their wholehearted support via meaningful relief convoys. The Government of the Russian Federation also promptly provided aid to flood-affected people in Hue with 29 tons of valuable goods.
Directly handing over 20 billion VND to support Hue in overcoming flood consequences, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed: “Ho Chi Minh City has continuously implemented many timely, focused, and targeted support activities for people affected by typhoons and floods in a timely, focused, and targeted manner, according to the actual needs and conditions of each locality, with the motto of being the fastest, most effective, and highest possible under the city's conditions. This is the initial funding to help the localities rebuild technical infrastructure, including medical stations and schools, and support people in the flood-affected areas to quickly overcome difficulties after the natural disasters. We hope Hue strives to quickly overcome difficulties, ensuring socio-economic development, and maintaining security and national defense.”
Rebuilding a peaceful life
As of November 17, the Relief Campaign Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city have timely allocated essential relief goods such as rice, instant noodles, milk, bottled water, and cakes, etc., to the right areas and recipients severely affected by the floods. Communes and wards suffering heavy damage received timely support; and 15 families with members died due to floods were visited and supported with 6 million VND per case. Tens of thousands of relief gift packages were also distributed to all communes and wards, focusing on 32 heavily flooded localities, ensuring timely support to the right recipients.
At the support reception events, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ai Van, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the City’s Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, affirmed that the unit would proceed with the allocation and transfer of funds and relief goods to affected localities and households in the fastest manner, as well as ensuring the effective, public, and transparent use of support sources, contributing to soon stabilizing the people's lives.
According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Tai, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, as the city strives to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster, the companionship and sharing from agencies, units, businesses, and benefactors carry not only material significance, but also serve as a source of immense spiritual encouragement, demonstrating the spirit of community responsibility, and alongside the city government, contributing to caring for the people's lives. The city government is continuing to review and assess damages, develop plans to support and restore agricultural production and livelihoods for the people, with the goal of soon bringing life back to normal.
Accompanying the working delegations to low-lying areas such as Hoa Chau, Duong No, Hung Loc, and Quang Dien, etc., we could truly feel the people’s gratitude upon receiving gifts from benefactors. These gifts, arriving after the fierce floods from various units and philanthropists, are truly precious to the people. And today, the support continuing to pour in from everywhere serves as the motivation for them to rebuild their lives and restore peace after the chaos of the floods.
