It takes only about 30 minutes to reach Thuan An Beach from downtown Hue before sunrise. Families, groups of friends and tourists all gather here to welcome a new day. Young people paddle SUP boards, jog along the beach and swim in the sea. Middle-aged visitors enjoy light exercise while soaking in the sea, children learn to swim, dig sand pits and build sandcastles, while many elderly relax with sand baths and soak in the morning sunshine and listening to the soothing rhythm of the waves.
Among the regular visitors is a swimming club from Kim Long Ward, whose members aged from 40s to 70s. For the past two years, they have faithfully maintained their early-morning sea swimming routine. Leaving Hue at 4:30 a.m., they head to Thuan An Beach to warm up, swim one to two kilometers, and enjoy a sand bath before buying fresh seafood, having breakfast together and chatting.
“We all have the health issues that come with age, but regular sea swimming has greatly improved our well-being,” said Mr. Truong Dinh Long, 67, a member of the group. “The biggest rewards are better sleep, better appetite and much less joint pain. If it's cold or rainy, we have to take a break. We rarely miss a morning here. Whenever we can't come, we truly miss the sea,” he added.
Joining the morning crowd are visitors from across Vietnam. Ms. Bui Thi Minh, a tourist from Hanoi, played with her grandchildren while sharing her experience. “We discovered this beach through social media reviews and have been staying here for three days. The beach is clean, the seafood is fresh, and we all love it. Every morning, the children wake up early and come here to swim and take photos,” she saidBeyond recreational activities, the lively catching and trading seafood along the shore adds another layer of excitement to the morning atmosphere, reflecting the unique rhythm of life in this coastal community. Here, health, happiness and livelihoods naturally blend together, painting a vibrant picture of a new day by the sea.
