The event was organized by Hue - A City to Reduce Plastics in Central Vietnam project, funded by WWF-Norway (through the World Wide Fund for Nature in Vietnam, WWF-Vietnam, and received by the People's Committee of Hue City), in collaboration with Hue Urban Environment and Public Works Joint Stock Company (HEPCO). The Hue Plogging 2024 event gathered 32 teams with more than 350 participants, including local residents and tourists in Hue City. Participants transformed into “Knights of the Shore,” engaging in the main activity of walking and collecting trash along nearly 5 kilometers from the central Thuan An beach to the community beach of An Hai neighborhood to eliminate the pollution hotspots in the area.

Additionally, players experienced overcoming auxiliary challenge stations, including rescuing Seagulls, Coral, Whales, and Baby Turtles, with activities encouraging the practice of reducing plastic waste and promoting waste sorting at the source.

In celebration of World Environment Day, the second plogging event in Hue City aimed to raise awareness among the community and tourists on not littering, reducing plastic waste, and contributing to keeping Thuan An beach green, clean, and beautiful.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran Song, Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee and Director of the Hue - A City to Reduce Plastics in Central Vietnam Project Management Board, called on the people of Hue and visitors to Hue to join hands in protecting the environment, maintaining the green, clean, and bright image of Hue City. He also expressed hope that the plogging movement would not end with that day's event but would continue to spread and become a habit for all Hue residents, making Hue truly worthy of the ASEAN Clean Tourist City title.

At the end of the program, the organizers awarded prizes to the top three teams in walking/running and collecting trash, the team that excelled at the challenge stations, and the team that participated in the online challenge attracting the most interest.

The “Hue - A City to Reduce Plastics in Central Vietnam” project was developed with funding from WWF-Norway (through WWF-Vietnam) and received by Hue City People's Committee. The project aims to help the city protect its rivers, wetlands, and coastal ecosystems from plastic waste pollution. The project is being implemented over four years (2021-2024) with the goal of reducing plastic waste leakage by 30% by 2024 through a series of interventions involving stakeholders, including public and private sectors, civil society organizations, and the local community.
