From a regular dessert, shaped entremets have become the meaningful gifts
|
To celebrate his 5th wedding anniversary, Mr. Tran Van Trung (from Thuan Hoa District) went online to find a meaningful gift for his wife and children. He was impressed and chose entremet cakes, which are currently popular on social media. He shared: “What I find most fascinating is that these cakes can be designed with various themes, and the individual cakes are connected and coherent in ideas and designs, like telling a story”.
Inspired by his idea, a box of four entremet cakes was crafted with eye-catching and lively designs. One cake was green with pine leaves, symbolizing Vong Canh Hill, where he proposed to his wife. Another featured their wedding date. The third was pink and shaped like a cute strawberry, representing “Dau Tay”, the name of their first daughter. The final cake was shaped like a heart, symbolizing the enduring love of their family.

Shaped entremet cakes have gained significant attraction and are widely loved and sought after by young people. Ms. Tran Thi Hien, a pastry chef specializing in sweets at Mia Cake’s (An Tay Ward, Thuan Hoa District), shared: “Initially, entremets were simply dessert cakes served at parties. However, nowadays, they’ve become a distinct category of cakes used as gifts, with a wide variety of attractive and eye-catching designs”.
Most entremet cakes are composed of 4 to 5 flavorful layers, with mousse as the main component accompanied by layers of sponge cake; a crunchy layer with chocolate or finely crushed nuts, a fruit-flavored jelly layer, and finished with a smooth emulsion. Thanks to creative designs that keep up with trends and incorporate impressive Vietnamese touches, in Hue City, entremets, which are crafted by skilled pastry chefs using fresh tropical fruits, have become a popular choice among customers.
Recently, Ms. Tran Thi Hien created a collection of entremet cakes in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South. Ms. Hien shared: “I came up with the idea and crafted these entremet cakes with the theme of national reunification, not only as a way to pay tribute but also to offer customers a meaningful gift option for this special occasion”. In the set of four cakes made with the theme of national reunification, Ms. Hien skillfully and vividly sculpted symbols such as the bright red national flag, a soldier’s green uniform and cap, and a white dove representing peace.
Cakes with the theme of national reunification are currently the best-selling items at Tran Thi Hien’s shop. “I hope that entremet cakes, not only with themes of love for the homeland and the country but also with flavors and designs that highlight local ingredients, will become a gift that is not only beautiful and delicious but also meaningful for many people on special occasions,” said Ms. Hien.
