HNN.VN - On the afternoon of May 19th, the Sub-Department of Irrigation and Climate Change, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hue City, organized a seminar themed “Community Joins Hands in Natural Disaster Prevention and Control”.

At the seminar, leaders of departments, agencies, and sectors, together with representatives from 40 wards and communes across the city, reviewed the results of natural disaster prevention and control efforts in recent times

The activity was held in response to the 2026 National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnam’s Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Sector (May 22nd, 1946 - May 22nd, 2026).

At the seminar, leaders of departments, agencies, and sectors, along with representatives from 40 wards and communes across Hue City, reviewed the results of natural disaster prevention and control efforts in recent years, especially in 2025. At the same time, they proposed response solutions for 2026, with a focus on the final months of the year.

Many lessons learned, effective models, and practical approaches in climate change adaptation and natural disaster prevention and control were also shared by localities during the seminar. These were regarded as important foundations to help units and localities become more proactive in implementing tasks and improving disaster response capacity.

According to the assessments by Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, from August to October 2026, there may be approximately six to seven storms, while from October to December, there could be an additional two to three storms. The storms are forecast to be strong and follow complicated paths, with around one to two storms potentially directly affecting Hue City between September and November.

The 2026 rainy season is expected not to be as extreme as that of 2025. However, from September to December, there is still the possibility of three to five flood events, mainly concentrated in October and November.

In response to the situation, Hue City Hydrometeorological Station recommended that agencies and localities closely monitor weather, hydrological developments, and heavy rainfall; proactively review disaster prevention and control plans; inspect reservoir and dam safety before the rainy and flood season; develop evacuation plans for people and property in high-risk areas; focus on preventing flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding; and ensure forecast information is delivered promptly to support direction and operational management.

From community heritage to a maritime vision

Within the cultural complex of Hue, if the system of palaces and royal tombs defines the face of an Imperial capital, the villages along the lagoon and coastline preserve the depth of community life. There, heritage does not lie dormant in the past but lives on in every festival season, every daily custom, and every belief tied to the natural environment. The Cau Ngu Festival of Thai Duong village, held once every three years in January at the Thuan An seaport, is precisely such a heritage - a vibrant cultural practice where community memory, maritime knowledge, and the will to survive have woven together into an enduring whole across hundreds of years.
