Improving capacity and quality
Mr. Phan Gia Nhat, M.A., Deputy Head of the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, said that from October 2017 to March 2021, he pursued a master’s program under the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship at Hokkaido University of Education - a partner institution of the university. Studying in a native-language environment provided him with practical exposure, helping him select teaching content and methods more suited to the use of Japanese in study, daily life, and work. In the coming time, he plans to continue improving his expertise through research and international cooperation, while innovating training programs toward international integration.
Another case is Ms. Ho Thuy Trang, a lecturer of the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University. Through a joint training program, she had the opportunity to study for a master’s degree in Australia in her teaching specialization. The modern learning environment, advanced educational methods, and cultural diversity helped her not only enhance professional knowledge but also develop teaching skills, research capacity, and an integrative mindset. “My time studying abroad helped me better understand the demands of modern education, allowing me to adjust my teaching methods to suit students in a globalized context”, she shared.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Huy, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University, noted that since its establishment, the university has built and maintained numerous international partnerships with institutions in China, the United States, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea through faculty and student exchanges as well as academic collaboration. After the COVID-19 pandemic, these activities were quickly restored and further expanded to partners in Europe such as Russia, France, and Belgium, while continuing to strengthen traditional partnerships in Asia.
Enhancing quality
During the 2020 - 2025 period alone, the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University hosted 26 international lecturers for teaching and professional support. At the same time, nearly 70 staff members and lecturers were sent abroad for academic exchange, short-term training, and long-term study programs. The university also welcomed more than 560 international students for study, internships, and cultural exchange, while sending approximately 380 students to participate in exchange, internship, and international experience programs with partner institutions.
The university has also received numerous scholarships from international partners, organized cultural and academic events with international elements, and implemented cooperation projects with organizations such as Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), the Embassy of the United States in Vietnam, and Manchester Metropolitan University, contributing to improved training quality and the institution’s international standing.
According to Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Huy, international cooperation has brought many practical benefits to students. Participation in exchange and international internship programs enables students to accumulate experience, enhance soft skills, and improve adaptability in global environments. These are key factors in increasing competitiveness and expanding employment opportunities after graduation.
In recent years, many students from the university have had opportunities to intern at Japanese enterprises and companies abroad, securing suitable and stable employment after completing these programs. The proportion of graduates achieving distinction and excellence remains consistently high, and the employment rate immediately after graduation is around 90%.
Over the next 5 - 10 years, the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University aims to deepen international cooperation in association with university autonomy mechanisms. The focus will be on developing joint programs with potential partners, expanding programs with international elements, and increasing student exchanges. The university will also promote scientific research collaboration and enhance access to domestic and international projects to upgrade facilities, learning resources, and teaching equipment, contributing to the development of a modern educational environment that meets the demands of international integration.
