Upper Huong River landscape associated with royal tomb complex of Nguyen Dynasty:
Worthy of world heritage recognition

The symposium of "Sustainable Management and Appropriate Utilization of the Cultural Landscape and Historical-Eco System at royal tombs of Nguyen dynasty and Huong River’s upstream basin” was attended by Vietnamese leading heritage experts, Japanese researchers and local managers.
This is a forum for researchers to share their studies result and views on the values, characteristics and potentiality of cultural landscape and historical-eco environment at royal tombs of the Nguyen dynasty and the Huong River’s upstream basin. At the same time, they also discussed and considered to put the landscape of royal tombs of the Nguyen dynasty associated with the Huong River’s upstream basin into the additional dossier for re-nomination of Hue Monuments Complex with the new criterion of Cultural Landscapes as World Heritage.

"The symposium is just the beginning to reaffirm the global prominence of the landscape of the Huong River associated with the Hue Monuments Complex. For the dossier to be finalized soon, it is suggested that Thua Thien Hue should continue to carry out the study and survey to clarify in detail the levels of prominence of these values, and confirm these outstanding values with the specific criteria of domestic laws and international conventions on heritages,” stressed Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh, representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
