Nguyen Ngoc Phon wins Third prize with Ao dai ngu than (five-panel Ao dai) at Outstanding Model Awards in Seoul, South Korea

HNN.VN - On December 24, Korean Institute of Traditional Culture Research and ORIHERI announced that Nguyen Ngoc Phon, a 23-year-old representative from Hue (of Doan Trang Embroidery and Sewing Service & Trade Co., Ltd.), surpassed more than 2,000 contestants worldwide to secure third prize at the World Grand Prix Supreme Model Contest and Seoul Beauty Fashion Festival 2024 (World Champion Model and Beauty Fashion Festival in Seoul - Korea 2024).

The competition seeks to find “ambassadors” who contribute to the global cultural and artistic development of the beauty industry in 2024. Nguyen Ngoc Phon gained attention with his unique men’s Ao dai ngu than (five-panel Ao dai for men) design, adorned with a bronze drum motif on the chest - a symbolic artifact representing the strength of Vietnamese culture. The addition of an outer coat elevated the traditional men’s five-panel Ao dai to a distinctive yet sophisticated ensemble, reflecting the elegance and refined craftsmanship of Hue ao dai tradition. This achievement further highlights Hue’s tailoring expertise and strengthens the reputation of its Ao dai on the international fashion stage.

This marks the second time Nguyen Ngoc Phon is honored in South Korea. Earlier in August 2024, he surpassed 60 contestants to win First prize with traditional cultural-themed outfits in the World Grand Prix Model Competition in South Korea, which aimed to find “cultural ambassadors” to celebrate the friendship between Vietnam and South Korea. At that contest, he had an award-winning performance with the five-panel Ao dai designed by Doan Trang, an artisan and designer.
