A large number of friends, colleagues, researchers, and his family members came to congratulate and share the joy with Bui Ngoc Long as his “spiritual child” was born right on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day and the 20th anniversary of his career at Thanh Nien Newspaper.
“In Pursuit of a Glorious Past” is a collection and selection of a series of long-form articles that have been published over the years on Thanh Nien Newspaper. Most of the articles revolve around the themes of Hue’s culture and heritage. Notably, the book features various articles such as Feng Shui of the Hue Imperial Citadel, In Search of the Vestiges of the Twenty Scenic Landscapes of the Imperial Capital, Tracking the traces of the Tay Son Dynasty, Stories of Royal Physicians under the Nguyen Dynasty, The Secret of Minh Mang Herbal Remedy, Sacred Mountains, The Thrilling Restoration of Can Chanh Palace, and The Martial Arts Essence of Hue, etc.
Although he did not consider himself to be the one who chose the path of heritage research, working as a journalist, he has pursued contemporary issues and followed how people today interact with cultural heritage. “Through those timely stories, I hope to offer readers a view of heritage shaped by love,” Bui Ngoc Long shared.
Also at the book launching event, many readers gave “interview-style” questions to Bui Ngoc Long about his career journey and his deep passion for culture and heritage.
It’s known that, before the release of “In Pursuit of a Glorious Past”, Bui Ngoc Long also published 2 poetry collections, including “Where is the Zen Buddhist?” (Thuan Hoa Publishing House, 2018) and “Four Friends, One Joy” (a collaborative collection, Thuan Hoa Publishing House, 2018).
