| Writers and students at the seminar on books and reading culture |
The seminar themed “Books and Reading culture”, organized by Hue City Library on the afternoon of December 10, attracted a large number of students and teachers from secondary and high schools in the area.
What was more interesting was that the students had a “dialogue” with four writers from Hue, namely Le Vu Truong Giang, Le Phi Tan, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Ha, and Trang Thuy. They are familiar writers, who have been warmly received by young people in recent years.
In their conversations with the student readers, in addition to sharing their creative journeys, these writers inspired a passion for reading in an era where digital technology has almost completely “taken over” everyone's time.
The writers all agreed that reading is a process of practice; and if one is persistent, he/she will find joy, as it is like a gift that the writer - the author wants to send to the reader. Of course, each generation's approach to reading culture is also different.
“Reading books is an age-old practice, but each era has a different way of reading. In the past, we only had paper books, but now young people have many opportunities to access audiobooks, and books from the internet... But in some way, let's maintain reading because it is extremely important. Reading is like a door opening to the world, a place where one can access human civilization,” said Le Phi Tan, a writer.
At the seminar, the writers also shared the importance of visiting bookstores, going to libraries, and building family bookshelves… Furthermore, to cultivate a passion and inspiration for reading, the writers suggested that the role of adults in the family and teachers at school has a certain influence on this habit. Adults need to be pioneers, and set an example in creating a reading environment; only then can they stimulate passion in the students.
