Organized by Hue-based artists, under the mentorship of Dr. Phan Hai Bang, a lecturer at the University of Arts, Hue University, the event marked the debut of a new artistic platform designed to foster the openness, collaboration, and creative experimentation among artists across central Vietnam.

Following the opening, the public was invited to enjoy over 140 artworks by over 30 artists and collectors, spanning a wide range of artistic mediums, from lacquer, oil, silk, and acrylic paintings to ceramic mosaics, woodblock prints, truchigraphy, mixed-media creations, and video art…

According to the organizing committee, the artworks brought together at O Ly Artshow are not defined by notions of old or new, but by their varied engagements with materials, visual language, and ideas. Collectively, they provide an opportunity to witness the region’s artistic practices, not as a structurally comprehensive overview, but as a vibrant snapshot that mirrors the social realities, cultural life, and inner soul of this land.

The 10-day O Ly Artshow will feature a series of thematic discussions. One highlight is a talk on “The Practice of Ceramic Mosaic Art in Hue” by Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, former Rector of the University of Arts, Hue University. In addition to this academic presentation, the event would present works by artisan Huynh Minh, a long-time practitioner of ceramic mosaic art. Through these works, visitors will gain deeper insights into the techniques, aesthetic values, and cultural heritage embodied in this distinctive artistic tradition.

Do Ky Huy, a lecturer at the University of Arts, Hue University, will lead a discussion on the theme “Lacquer Art and Heritage”. The session will be accompanied by an exhibition of works by artist Nguyen Hoa, whose distinctive style bears the unmistakable imprint of the land of Hue Ancient Capital.

The program will also feature a range of other thematic discussions, including “Chuon Village Tureens and the Art of Woodblock Printing”, “Contemporary Art Among Young Artists and Artistic Practice”, and “Books and the Art of Books”…
