The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province has just had a working session with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to foster cooperation on the development of electric vehicles and green transport in the area.

The meeting welcomed the participation of the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam - Patrick Haverman. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh represented the provincial leaders.

At the meeting, the two parties exchanged relevant contents regarding strengthening the transport policy in the city towards green development; promoting the use of electric transport in logistics and passenger services; installing a pilot solar battery system using renewable energy at the charging station for electric trucks.

The two parties have also proposed to develop pilot policy models in the fields of low-carbon economy, green development, circular economy, and sustainable development models; organize research activities, and seminars to raise public awareness about green transport, circular economy, sustainable development, and recommended policies for Hue in related fields.

Mr. Patrick Haverman emphasized that green transport would be the typical mode of future transportation towards Hue's long-term goals for low-carbon urban development.

Hue City needs to develop an overall green transport development plan that integrates with other development activities, one of which isthe appropriate roadmaps together with an integrated and environmentally-friendly transport network. Concurrently, it is necessary to develop an institutional and policy framework for the management, operation, and popularity of green initiatives.

In Greek mythology, the supreme god Zeus transformed himself into a bull to seduce the beautiful princess Europa. When she mounted his back, the bull carried her across the sea to the island of Crete, where she gave birth to great kings, seen as an allegory for the birth of European civilization. The continent of Europe was therefore named after her – Europa, later known by the common name Europe.
