The bridge passing over Thuan An estuary named Cua Thuan

HNN.VN - On the morning of November 4, at the fourth thematic session of the 9th Hue City People’s Council for the 2026 - 2031 term, a resolution naming the bridge passing over Thuan An estuary Cua Thuan Bridge was approved. The name received 56.4% of votes cast by people through Hue-S application.

The bridge is part of the Coastal Road Project through Hue City and the bridge passing over Thuan An estuary. It is a key transport infrastructure project that plays an important role in improving connectivity, facilitating socio-economic development in coastal area, and expanding the city’s development space.

According to the proposal submitted by the City People’s Committee, the naming process involved several rounds of consultation. On November 7, 2025, the City People’s Committee submitted a proposal to the City People’s Council to name the bridge Thuan An Bridge. However, at the 28th thematic session of the 8th City People’s Council, delegates called for reconsideration, noting that the name could be confused with an existing Thuan An Bridge on the route crossing Tam Giang Lagoon.

In response to the delegates’ feedback, the City People’s Committee directed relevant agencies to revise the proposal, and add two alternative names: Cua Thuan Bridge, and Thai Duong Bridge, for wider public consultation.

Based on the consultation results, the City People’s Committee submitted the proposal to the City People’s Council for consideration and decision to name the bridge Cua Thuan Bridge. According to the City People’s Committee, Cua Thuan is a shortened form of the name of the Thuan An estuary.

Reviewing the submission, the Committee for Culture and Social Affairs of the City People’s Council agreed with the option put forward by the City People’s Committee. The Committee noted that the bridge is a large-scale project of strategic significance and symbolic value to the city, the choice of its name had drawn considerable public attention.

According to the Committee for Culture and Social Affairs, the name Cua Thuan not only is a geographical designation, but also embodies historical and cultural values, as well as aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous land along the coast.
