The project marks a significant expansion in the effort of disaster prevention and response, focusing on protecting both humans and animals, especially the groups that often suffer greatly during disasters but receive insufficient concerns.

The conference was attended by the Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Nguyen Chi Tai, along with representatives from relevant departments and agencies, World Animal Protection, the Pet Hue Rescue Association, and delegates from local communities.

The project will run for 3 years, and it will be implemented in 5 key areas, including Phu Xuan, Kim Long, Huong An, Quang Dien, and Dan Dien. It is funded by a non-refundable grant of 70,000 USD (approximately 1.7 billion VND). Key activities include: training on essential skills, developing disaster response plans that incorporate animal protection, providing material support to households, raising community awareness through communication campaigns, and establishing rapid response teams capable of rescuing both people and animals.

In the framework of the conference, the delegates discussed the project’s contents, goals, as well as its timeline. Furthermore, they also shared experiences from various localities and proposed solutions to integrate animal protection into disaster prevention plans. Hue City, which frequently suffers from storms and floods, still has significant gaps in the protection of livestock, poultry, and pets, etc., whenever natural disasters occur.

The implementation of the project contributes to the establishment of a network of volunteers equipped with knowledge, skills, and tools to support communities during disasters. At the same time, it creates pioneering model initiatives that can be replicated in other localities across the country.

Green shoots after the flood

People say that after days submerged in floodwater, when the water recedes, the ground is left with a dull, gloomy gray. Yet it is within that muted palette that the resilient life force of nature begins to sprout - taking root, greening again, and stirring with new vitality through the caring hands of the city’s green-park workers.
