Opening an eco-tourism route atop Mount Kim Phung

HNN.VN - Located southwest of Hue’s Imperial Citadel, at an elevation of more than 430 meters above sea level, Mount Kim Phung has long been a destination for nature lovers who wish to conquer its summit and take in a panoramic view of Hue city.

Infrastructure investment

To gradually complete infrastructure, promote the value of the landscape, and create a distinctive new eco-tourism product, in late 2025, the Hue City Green Park Center launched a project to build a road up Mount Kim Phung. The project includes more than 2.2 km of concrete road, a drainage system, a parking area of nearly 1,500 m², along with a walking trail approximately 1.6 km long with 5,000 granite stone steps, a bridge crossing a stream, and numerous landscaping and greenery components. The project’s total investment is 28.5 billion VND, aimed at creating an experiential space that harmonizes nature with construction.

Construction on the steep, rugged mountainous terrain has demanded enormous effort from the contractor on site. Mr. Le Quang Thai, a representative of the constructor, shared: “Transporting materials to the mountain summit faced many obstacles due to the steep and treacherous roads. We maximized our workforce and specialized equipment, determined to bring the project to completion on schedule.”

Mr. Dang Ngoc Quy of the Hue City Green Park Center said that to ensure the project stays on schedule, the Center has coordinated with the project management board and the supervising consultant to regularly inspect the site and urge progress on manpower, equipment, and construction timelines, ensuring the project is carried out in compliance with regulations and to a high standard of quality.

As for Mr. Quy, throughout the construction process, the Center has always prioritized preserving the natural landscape. For the natural rock formations interspersed among the ancient pine forest, the center required the constructor to study options for keeping them in their original state, adjusting the design and construction methods accordingly to create harmony between the structure and nature, helping to preserve the area’s pristine beauty.

To date, the project has completed more than 80% of its plan. The units involved are focusing on accelerating progress on the remaining items, striving to finish and bring all components of the project into operation by the end of 2026, to meet the sightseeing and experiential needs of residents and visitors.

An opportunity for eco-tourism development

Previously, the journey to the summit of Mount Kim Phung relied mainly on forest trails, which took a long time and carried considerable danger. Now, the comprehensively invested infrastructure has made access more convenient and safer. This not only makes it easier for local people and visitors to explore the scenic site, but also helps spread awareness of preserving and protecting natural resources and the ecological environment.

In early August, many young people in Hue had the chance to experience the journey to the summit of Mount Kim Phung on the new route. “This is the second time I’ve conquered the summit of Kim Phung. Before, climbing was quite difficult and required a local guide to lead the way. Now, the route has been upgraded, making it more convenient and safer. Standing at the summit, I was deeply impressed by the majestic natural scenery. I hope to introduce the beauty of Mount Kim Phung so that more young people can come to explore and experience it,” shared Nguyen Nhat Quang, a student at Nguyen Hue High School.

Wearing a new look while still retaining its inherent values, Mount Kim Phung is gradually becoming an attractive destination on Hue’s eco-tourism map. This is not just a journey to conquer a mountain peak, but also a journey back to nature, to feel the cultural and historical depth of this former capital land.

Mount Kim Phung also preserves many important historical marks. In 1836, under the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, the image of Mount Kim Phung was engraved on the Chuong Dinh (Chuong Urn), affirming its status as one of the outstanding scenic sites of the former Imperial Capital. During the resistance war years, the mountain also served as an operational base for the Hue City Party Committee and was a strategic area and important forward outpost during the 1968 Tet Offensive.

The harmonious combination of nature conservation and sustainable tourism development not only helps awaken the potential of Mount Kim Phung, but also opens up a new experiential space rich in cultural identity, further affirming the direction of building Hue into a city of heritage, green and sustainable development.
