Leaving a good impression on tourists being vital to the tourism industry

Mr. Troy Nankervis’s trip started from Hanoi, stopping off at Hue, Hoi An, the Mekong Delta, before finally ending in Ho Chi Minh City. The most impressive tourist destination for the freelance Australian journalist is Hue – The Ancient Capital of Vietnam, with its unique culture and cuisine.
Upon sharing the experiences during his trip, Troy Nankervis affirmed: “If you spend a few days exploring this place, you will see the Perfume River flowing through the city dotted with mausoleums, pagodas, etc. All of these have existed for centuries. Locals believe that the landscape of Ngu Binh Mountain, where the Ancient Citadel was built nearby, resembles the shape of a dragon. This folk story that blends history and mythology can be found everywhere in Hue. The special thing is that Hue food is delicate and very delicious.”
Troy Nankervis is not the first international tourist to praise Hue tourism on his personal page or his country’s newspaper. In fact, many visitors to Hue who have fallen in love with this land do not hesitate to write reviews of Hue tourism on social networks.
In mid-November 2023, the sharings on the trip to the Ancient Capital during flooded days of Jack, a foreign tourist, drew a lot of attention on social networks. Jack humorously compared the trip to Vietnam with one in Venice. Instead of showing concern for the unprofitable trip, he still comfortably enjoyed banh mi (Vietnamese bread) in front of the scenery of boats and wherries running back and forth, stirring the floodwater. Hue is still beautiful in the eyes of tourists whether in heavy rains or floods, and exploring this city during the rainy season is a new experience.
In 2023, when the number of international tourists soars again, it is easy to spot many sharings and reviews of tourists on foreign newspapers and magazines or social networking personal pages. Notably, from the experiences of tourists, the world-famous and prestigious travel magazine Lonely Planet (the U.S.) also introduces to tourists 10 wonderful must-see destinations in Vietnam. Among these, Hue is introduced as an attractive place with many interesting experiences. Besides, a reporter from British Vogue Magazine gives tips on certain dishes to try when coming to Vietnam, especially Hue beef noodle soup, etc.
In talks with many international tourists, many affirmed that they knew about Hue thanks to the information on newspapers, magazines, and reviews from tourists who had come to Vietnam. Positive comments become a plus point for them to make the decision to go on the journey to explore the land of the Ancient Capital.

Leaving a good impression of Hue on tourists
In the current context, the practice of propaganda and tourism promotion is especially important. Stakeholders in the field of tourism include not only management agencies, units, businesses or business households, but everyone should become a tourism ambassador as well. Moreover, tourists are also the most prestigious and honest ambassadors to promote the tourism brand of a destination, together with its culture and people.
Through many exchanges, Mr. Truong Thanh Minh, Director of the Provincial Tourism Promotion Information Center, said that the work of propaganda and tourism promotion was very important, and the provincial tourism industry also wanted famous and prestigious people to write reviews about Hue tourism. The above-mentioned method is very good and certainly effective, but it clearly requires a significant amount of funding, which poses a big problem. However, if a good impression can be left in the hearts of visitors, no compensation would be required.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of the Provincial Department of Tourism, said that the Ancient Capital’s tourism was also changing, heading towards ameliorating and professionalizing tourism staff, ranging from cyclo riders, tour guides, to community tourism workers through training and coaching programs. In order for Hue - the Ancient Capital to be beautiful in the eyes of tourists all the time, it is necessary to make joint efforts from tourism workers and every beloved Hue resident.
