In April 1936, after completing the classic film ‘Modern Times’, Charlie Chaplin and actress Paulette Goddard secretly married. The couple embarked on a long honeymoon trip to Indochina. When they visited Hue Ancient Capital, they chose Saigon Morin Hotel. Here, the ‘King of Comedy’ and his wife spent time strolling along the banks of the Huong River, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of the Ancient Citadel and seeking complete privacy, far from the limelight and the attention of Hollywood media at the time.

Organized by the Hue City Center for Culture and Cinema, the ‘Hue and the Flow of History’ Film Week runs from August 19 to September 5.

Beyond highlighting the role and core values of the family, the annual German film festival KinoFest 2025 conveys a message about the meaning of family: not as a fixed ideal, but as a space of complexity, contradiction, care, and change.

As part of the film week celebrating the 24th Vietnam Film Festival, the film “Red rain” (“Mua do”) will be screened for free in Hue on the evening of November 21.

Renowned as an ancient heritage city, Hue has emerged as a popular destination for both domestic and international filmmakers. Every architectural structure, scenic spot, or landmark in Hue can serve as a backdrop for different genres of films, ranging from feature to short ones. This has more or less contributed to establishing a brand, significantly boosting local tourism.
