On the occasion of his visit to Hue to attend the recently held talk “The Journey of Vietnamese Lacquer from Heritage to the Future 1930 - 2030,” he took time to speak with the correspondent of Hue Ngay Nay Cuoi Tuan (Hue Today Weekly), sharing an engaging story about the potential to become Vietnam’s hub for lacquer art creativity.

Many journeys back to old Hue begin with seemingly small details. For me, it was a visit to An Thu garden house in Gia Hoi old quarter - a contemplative Hue residence nestled behind lush green trees. Mr. Vo Chanh Tien, the current caretaker, led me through the rooms while sharing the house's history and stories of generations tied to the garden and the rhythm of the old Gia Hoi. But what made me linger the longest was actually… beneath my feet.

The humanitarian “zero-cost surgery” programs at hospitals have supported many children from disadvantaged backgrounds. From February 13th - 14th, in Hue, the Khoi Su Tu Tam Foundation (Kim Oanh Group), in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, organized its key charitable program “Gieo Xuan Season 3 2026”, along with accompanying activities such as “Happiness Sprouts” and gift presentations for disadvantaged children, patients, and members of the local Blind Association. After the historic flooding season in late October 2025, while various areas were still deeply submerged in water, thousands of workers had to temporarily stop working, businesses in Hue City promptly stepped in to share the burden, from providing cash support, salary advances, and safe accommodations to help workers overcome difficulties and quickly stabilize production.

Over the past few days, people from villages across Dan Dien Commune have been encouraging one another to visit the floating fish farms along the Bo River to buy fish in support of local farmers. Some families bought a few fish, others only one, but everyone said the same thing: “It’s just our way of sharing a little of their hardship”. That’s all they could do, as the recent floods had wiped out tens of tons of fish raised by families living along the Bo River.
