The ceremony of erecting the nêu pole to welcome Tết inside Huế Imperial Palace was recently re-enacted in accordance with the royal rituals of the Nguyễn Dynasty on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month. In the royal life of the past, the nêu pole erecting ceremony (also known as Thướng Tiêu) served as a signal that Tết had arrived. The word 'Tiêu' in Thướng Tiêu means 'the treetop,' symbolizing the highest and most visible point.
