The traces of Can Chanh Palace

HNN.VN - Inside the Hue Imperial Citadel, Can Chanh – the most important palace after Thai Hoa Palace – was built in the 3rd year of Gia Long’s reign (1804) and destroyed in 1947. This is also the palace that is assessed by Western scholars as the most beautiful and splendid construction of the imperial citadel.

Under the Nguyen dynasty, all of the rites of the general court started at Can Chanh Palace, then went through Thai Hoa Palace, and returned to finish at Can Chanh.

In an effort of preserving, restoring, and promoting the general values of Hue relics in this period, Thua Thien Hue has spent nearly 200 billion VND to revive Can Chanh Palace. Sending the series of documentary photos to Thua Thien Hue Weekly, the photographer Nguyen Phong – a member participating in the analysis of documents to support the work of Can Chan restoration said: “These are the extremely valuable documentary photos to give the most visual critical evidences about the frame and the overall appearance of the palace. Especially, from this, the members have made many compelling discoveries that based on the remaining artifacts in this palace to convincingly calculate the height of the columns inside the palace”.
