Earlier, Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department had received a red-shanked douc from Mr. Nguyen Quang’s household (Lap An, Lang Co town, Phu Loc). This rare animal had strayed into Mr. Quang's garden on August 13 and chased by the dogs. Then, the red-shanked douc had been kept for care and protection. He had also requested the rangers to come to its rescue. Next, Mr. Quang voluntarily handed over the red-shanked douc to Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department.

In fact, the rangers acknowledged that it was the red-shanked douc (or costumed ape) which weighed about 7 kg. This pygathrix nemaeus is known as the "queen" of the primates by the International Wildlife Conservation Society.
