A rare and precious water dragon received

HNN.VN - On May 10, the Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan inter-district Forest Protection Department received a rare and precious water dragon from a citizen who voluntarily handed it over.

The individual who voluntarily handed over this animal was Mr. Ho Minh Nhat, residing in Thuan Hoa ward, Phu Xuan district. After discovering the water dragon, Mr. Nhat suspected it was a rare and precious wild forest animal, so he captured it and reported it to the forest rangers via the hotline with the desire for it to be released back into the wild environment.

Immediately after receiving the information, the forest rangers went to the scene, received the water dragon in normal health condition; and at the same time, they took care of it and completed legal procedures to release it back into its natural environment soon in accordance with regulations.

The water dragon, also known as the “ky tom” in Vietnamese, has the scientific name Physignathus cocincinus. This is a rare and precious reptile species not only in Vietnam but also in Southeast Asian countries.
