Investing a project to build a marine environmental monitoring and warning system in Thua Thien Hue

Thua Thien Hue is one of four provinces (along with Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri) has recently been approved the investment for a project to Build a marine environmental monitoring and warning system by the Prime Minister.

The project is managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and People's Committees of these four provinces. The objective of the project is to build a modern and synchronized monitoring and warning system for marine environmental pollution in the four central provinces including Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue in order provide information, data and documents on the current status and quality of the marine environment in the central region (surrounding air, sea water and sediment), as well as provide timely warning when the quality of the marine environment there shows any sign of pollution.

The project will be implemented from 2017 to 2019 with five components. Specifically, component 1 enhances the capacity of the marine environment monitoring and warning system in Ha Tinh province with a focus on investing in equipment for on-field observation and lab analysis, investing in specialized equipment for environmental monitoring for Ha Tinh’s Centre for Environmental Monitoring.

Components 2, 3 and 4 will strengthen the capacity of the marine environment monitoring and warning system in Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces, in which enhancing investment in equipment for on-field observation and lab analysis; investing in specialized equipment for environmental monitoring for the Environmental Monitoring Centers of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces.

Component 5 monitors and gives warning for the coastal environment of four central provinces through a system of automated monitoring stations, using remote sensing technology and a combination of periodic monitoring programs. Accordingly, it is expected to build a system of marine environment monitoring stations, including automatic and continuous sea level and air monitoring stations in the four provinces.
