Festival Hue pushed back to next year

HNN.VN - The Hue Festival 2020 has been officially postponed until 2021 due to complicated developments relating to the novel coronavirus COVID 19. News on the delay comes following a statement made by Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho, chairman of Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People's Committee on July 31st.

Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho regretted to inform the final decision, but in light of COVID-19, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee decided to push back Hue Festival 2020 until next year. The province has assigned Hue Festival Center to send a letter of apology to sponsors, embassies, travel agencies, local people, and tourists for the postponement of the occasion and expressed their hope to welcome everyone in 2021.

This latest postponement marks the third time that the Hue Festival 2020 has been adjusted following the two previous scheduled dates of April 1 and August 26. The festival was expected to mainly showcase the quintessence of Vietnam, yet again, the event needs a safer date to take place amid escalating fears over the spread of COVID-19.

Yet during fieldwork, I gained access to several ancient Han-Nom documents recording the migration, land reclamation, and establishment of villages and communes. Most notably is a cadastral record dating to the 9th year of the Dai Hoa reign (1451) under King Le Nhan Tong, compiled exactly 575 years ago.
