Hue City develops smart flood warning system
HNN.VN - On the morning of September 18th, Hue City Department of Science and Technology held a council meeting to evaluate and consider commissioning a state-funded science and technology task on developing a real-time system to control and simulate flood propagation and provide smart warnings, serving disaster management and response across the city.

At the meeting, council members focused on evaluating and providing feedback on the system development plan, with an emphasis on developing real-time flood calculation and forecasting models to establish predictive flood maps; developing an operational system to support flood-release decisions and warn the public; and, simultaneously, digitizing disaster response procedures.
The task focuses on combining hydraulic models with artificial intelligence (AI) models to forecast flooding, develop predictive flood maps and flood warning maps, and support flood-release operations. In addition, the system aims to digitize the operation of interconnected reservoirs, early warning and flood prevention and control operations.
The council also analysed and clarified the approaches, the division of tasks between the hydraulic and AI models, and the quantitative indicators for evaluating the system’s performance; identified mechanisms for providing and sharing data among management agencies; and established a list of expected outputs and evaluation criteria suited to practical requirements.
The implementation of the task aims to gradually enhance flood forecasting and warning capacity, support disaster response management and operations, and contribute to proactive prevention and minimisation of damage caused by natural disasters in Hue City.
