The Standing Committee of the City People's Council chaired the discussion session

Speaking at the session, Mr. Nguyen Tan, Director of the Department of Education and Training, stated that despite many socio-economic difficulties, with the close attention of the City’s Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee, and the support of local authorities, the education sector has achieved quite sustainable development.

Currently, the percentage of schools meeting national standards across the city has increased to 97%. Infrastructure continues to be invested in, and the arrangement and deployment of teachers have been facilitated. The city maintains a low tuition fee level, takes good care of good students, especially those who have won national and international awards, providing a great motivation for learning. Mr. Tan emphasized that this year, the city’s students achieved high awards in national and international competitions for excellent students.

Additionally, the education sector continues to effectively mobilize socialized resources to invest in, and improve the quality of teaching. However, a major current challenge is the shortage of teachers. A review shows that the entire sector is currently short of 1,009 teachers across all educational levels.

To meet new requirements, the sector has researched and implemented new regulations from the Central Government, such as organizing two-session schooling per day, implementing day-boarding programs for students in difficult areas, and tuition fee exemptions and reductions, etc. These are contents linked to major policies, and require the effective mobilization of resources.

“The Department of Education and Training is reviewing facilities to ensure teaching is organized according to national school standards; simultaneously, it is advising on reallocating surplus premises to be used as school locations. In the context of universal tuition fee exemption and changing demographic policies, the student population will experience significant fluctuations in the coming time,” warned Mr. Tan.

Mr. Tan proposed that the city continue to pay adequate attention and investment to ensure the education sector maintains its quality, and meets development requirements as Hue is a centrally-governed municipality.

Regarding the tourism sector, Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Tram, Director of the Department of Tourism, reported that in the first six months of 2025, Hue tourism experienced impressive growth, with a sharp increase in visitors. Many new tourism products were introduced, contributing to enhancing Hue's position and image on the national tourism map.

The development of tourism products has been linked to major cultural events and festivals; concurrently, the city has also promoted the development of ecological tourism and agricultural tourism in traditional craft villages. Experiential tours are rated as attractive and attract a large number of visitors.

In terms of infrastructure, two new accommodation projects have come into operation, bringing the total number of rooms across the city to approximately 24,000. However, Ms. Tram also acknowledged that the infrastructure system still has many limitations, lacking major investors, large-scale projects, and international brands.

In the last six months of the year, the tourism sector will focus on effectively organizing activities of the National Tourism Year 2025 and major festivals; it will also continue to promote Hue as an attractive, modern, and unique destination.

The Department of Tourism is coordinating with partners to promote the expansion of international flight routes to Hue, especially via Phu Bai International Airport. Initial promotional and implementation efforts have been meticulously prepared.

Speaking in the assembly hall, Mr. Le Truong Luu, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the City National Assembly delegation, and Chairman of the City People's Council, noted: The education sector needs to pay more attention to improving students' IT and foreign language skills. “It is essential to link educational development with the streamlining of the apparatus, and improving management efficiency,” emphasized Mr. Luu.

For the tourism sector, Mr. Le Truong Luu suggested developing more new products, especially spiritual tourism and golf tourism, the two types with great potential that have not been effectively exploited. According to Mr. Luu, Hue is suitable for developing spiritual tourism associated with local culture. Additionally, with infrastructure gradually being completed, there is a need to call for strong investment in golf tourism to attract high-end visitors, contributing to diversifying the market and enhancing Hue tourism's competitiveness.

The discussion on socio-economic issues will continue on the morning  of July 17. Notably, the City People's Council will proceed with the question-and-answer session, before concluding the session.
